I've always pronounced it like that (learned it in French movies :), but in the U.S. and Canada (even if they know the correct pronunciation - most don't) they always react like you're "putting on airs"/trying to impress them/etc. Strange how people would rather "Americanize"/Anglosize foreign words, rather then say them correctly.

Something I never understood is some languages, why even add letters that should no be pronounced in the first place? It just complicates things from my point of view.
I like Romanian for example, where you write as you speak and vice-versa, where every letter is pronounced.

I've also heard a lot of people pronounce the c at the end of sauvignon blanc. The french way is silent c, right?

I always pronounce it like that when I order it at Starbucks, but they always repeat it back to me with a hard R & T. C"R"oissan"T" Drives me nuts!
Thanks for this🙏

When you hear people speaking English, they are not saying the French word croissant. They are saying the English word croissant which will sound different to you. Thats because they are different words, though the English word is borrowed from the French language.

My country has gone too far in order for me to pronounce it 'cwah san'. When i"m in a French country I'll say it.

How do you pronounce “crwa”? It sounds like “cwa” to me in your video.

The word croissant comes from the bad french pronunciation of the word crescent, as in the crescent moon of the Ottoman flag, where the pastry actually comes from. Yes, the Croissants is not actually Frenc. It is Ottoman in origin. It was brought to by a french noble who went to Anatolia and fell in love with the pastry. And you could pronounce it without the T in French, but in English, it's pronounced with the T. There are many different languages in this world. And they all have their own unique ways of pronouncing words. Show conclusion, I'll say this. There is no proper way to say Amy given word. Just a general approximation of what it should sound like, in each dialect of every language.

Even with a slight deviation from this pronunciation, the French suddenly stop understanding what is being said to them?
