Are you interesting in the idea of a new age Steam Machine?

As a non pc gamer, I would definitely be interested in a Steam box. I always hear the sales on Steam are crazy good

One key element here is that Valve is still a private company and that helps a lot when not trying to keep happy shareholders

IMO they have to start selling steam decks in stores if they want this to work. They have to get people used to seeing the steam branding in stores or they'll still be an alien company for most casual customers.

Can’t believe Soulja boy is taking this seriously now

This could be a good move. I’ve said before that steam competing at a level to try and get more of the casual market would be really healthy for the industry since Sony and Microsoft are getting lazy. They’re going to have to take more steps to make this fully work though, like selling it at retail

Since I got a steam deck, and shortly after a gaming PC, my steam catalog has become one of my largest libraries. The classic games that are available at discounted prices are really amazing deals. Anyone looking to get into PC gaming but doesn't want the headache of dealing with back-end problems should absolutely pick one of these up.

I would 100% buy a steam console as I get older I rather just play on console now.

Valve will release their own console and then Microsoft will come along and claim it's an Xbox.

a console dedicated to PC games is so fucking cool.

bought a really long hdmi cable just to run my PC to my TV and use steam as a console, so I’m 100% the market for this

You can plug in the steam deck into a dock and play on a tv with a controller so the idea already works

They should do it, more competition is always better for the consumer. The introduction of a "console" with Steam prices can be huge.

The follow up punch to really make them competitive is free online multiplayer.

Hell yes. Day one purchase. You want to give me my steam library in a console format? I'm in

Just to be clear, all steam machines sold had steam is 1.0 or 2.0 which was based on Debian Linux. The OEMs selling steam machines also sold them without the steam machine brand as regular pcs running windows. The main issue for the steam machine was lack of native Linux games. This has been mostly resolved with the Proton compatibility layer used on steam os 3.0 which is based on Arch Linux instead of Debian.

Well, this was a surprise. With the success of the Steam Deck, I was expecting Valve to make a TV set top box variant from the same hardware like how Sony's Playstation TV did out of their Vita.

7:43 My Epic Games library currently contains 218 titles, and I have not bought a single one of them, I have never spent a penny in that store. I know I have not collected all the free games they gave away because I was late to the party, it took me a while to bother creating an account for that. I have put 59 games into my favorites which means they're great games I have already played or know about and want to play.

My opinion might be all over the place but hear me out. Valve tried making a “console” in 2015 and it crashed and burned getting discontinued in just 3 years. However, I think the market was way different back then and as long as it’s semi upgradable it might have a very small chance of competing with the big 3. However, it will not be able to keep up with Xbox/PlayStation/Nintendo if Valve just relies on their store front and doesn’t have any exclusive games. My reason for this is that without exclusives a lot of consumers are gonna ask themselves “why do I need it when my Xbox/PlayStation/Nintendo can download most of the same games”.
