China help Tanzania and Zambia to build a 1860km long railway in 1970s. That was at the time China was poorer than nearly every African country because of US economically blockaded China for full decades after the Korean war. The friendly gesture by Zambia took place as this railway is being re-activated.

Actually the colonials powers destroyed the connection before they left power. I'm Zambian, Chinese workers have built important historical rails in the USA, Asia and Africa etc.
