Thank you so much for sharing, Judy! I haven't done much natural dyeing, but with summer on the horizon and the abundance of various plants, I've been very inspired to try it more this year.

Judy, this was great! Thank you for sharing. I'm really getting the itch to dye now. Have been for a month or so.

We make dandelion "coffee" with the roots. The result is liquid as dark as black coffee and it tastes very pleasant. After cleaning the roots you dry them in the oven at 200 degrees Fahrenheit for 1.5 hours and then roast on 325 degrees for 40 minutes. The roots will smell like sweet potatoes. At this point you could boil them for your dye. I would encourage you to give it another try as I feel the resulting yarn color would be a stunning, warm brown. Or after roasting, boil yourself a cup of "coffee" and enjoy! A YouTube search on making dandelion coffee may be helpful.

So pretty! I'd love to try this. A couples questions... the vessels you use for boiling, etc, are those specifically just for yarn dyeing (not food pots)? Also, any idea if this might work with pine/spruce needle boughs? I make pine/spruce needle tea, and the resulting tea is a really rich, beautiful rosy color. I'm wondering if that'd translate well to yarn. Great video! So relaxing.
