I use the feather cape + barley wine for flametal mining but for normal combat i use the ashen cape for its extra armor and attack stamina reduction, yes i carry both all the time

This is exactly how I feel. When I first got to Ashlands, I ditched the Feather Cape because I figured it'd be a massive liability, because, ya know... the entire biome is on fire! But, my entire playstile relies on the maneuverability that the Feather Cape provides, so I put it back on and was happier for it.

I personally still use feather cape on my mage setup. The mobility it provides by enabling casting spells while jump gliding is absolutely needed especially considering how squishy mage builds are. I can cast bubble shield while jump gliding towards a direction instead of just standing there casting the bubble shield. You dont get set on fire that much in ashlands since every mob deals mostly physical damage so the weak to fire is negligable tbh. Warrior builds can change the cape since the new capes give a lot of good stats for melle atking builds like more armor or less stamina consumption on attack or dodge

Totally agree. The wine is a great consumable for the Ashlands regardless of what you wear but the Feather Cloak is hard to beat for what it lets you do in terms of being maneuverable on the battlefield.

The only time it can even begin to be a problem is on fader, but you're gonna have your wine anyway, and if you stand in that mess long enough for it to hurt you, you're probably dead anyway. Same goes for stepping into the lava, even if it's just your pinky toe. You're just vaporized.

honestly there isn't actually that much fire dmg in the ashlands.

Would lava blobs explosions not have been more consistent without the smoke damage?

I've worn the feather cape throughout the Ashlands. Never took it off from start to finish. Its benefits far outweigh any additional fire damage you might take, and obviously that's significantly reduced with barely wine. Jumping higher and being able to jump and glide into areas (like fortresses) are a huge advantage.

The variables (at least partially) come from health regen, you can see it triggering at slightly different timings during the tests

I really hope in the future they add upon the imbue/enchanting from the weapons in ashlands and put it toward armor to give either resist types or bonuses even being able to add it onto older types of gear.

It seems like a lot of people are still having a hard time understanding why this happens and why you don't need to throw away your feather cape while you're at Ashlands. Basically, after some testing as well (counting only the first fire damage, not what you receive over time), I concluded the following: The damage multipliers (Very Weak, Weak, Neutral, Resistant, Very Resistant), are not cumulative and/or they do not subtract or add to each other, they overlap, if and only if it is better than the previous one. What is the case with the feather cape, which is very weak against fire, when you take the fire resistance mead, the Very Weak to fire status is replaced by Resistent to fire, simple as that. The same happens with Root Armor, which has Resistant to poison and Weak to Fire, as the poison mead gives you Very Resistant to poison, the Resistant to poison status is replaced by Very Resistant to poison instead of adding together, the Weak to fire is replaced by Resistant to fire like the Feather Cape if you take the Fire Resistant mead as well. What changes is the damage reduced by armor. So the final test I did was with the Troll Cape with the same armor and I compared it with the Feather cape with the same armor (without other armor) and the Fire Resistant mead and the first damage was identical. Remember, the continuous damage you take from fire is not the same as direct damage from fire, damage over time is considered absolute damage and cannot be reduced in any way (This is why the damage doesn't decrease if you take a resistance mead while already taking damage over time, only after), however, it is influenced by the damage that applies it and this damage can be reduced by status multipliers attached to the armor. Espero ter ajudado e desculpa qualquer erro de inglês, pedi ajuda do Google Lol

If you want to test with consistent fire ticks, build a roof over a surtling spawner, dry out, stand in it and then look at where the ticks stabilise. You shouldn't take smoke damage with the surtling spawner and it doesn't take damage and go out.

I haven't even been using the barley wine. Those lava blobs are easy to dodge and apart from that what else even sets you on fire?

Totaly agree. Shure, if you go and tank everything, stacking fire dmg might become a problem. But as a mage or archer, nothing comes even romtely close to you. I finished ashlands, got the sword, killed Fader and didnt even notice, that the valkyries deal fire dmg 😅 and the blobs are so slow, the mages are far far away...

Meanwhile the Root Harnesk is also still busted

Bottom line is playstyle. I noticed in the videos, you're going magic. So yes you'll have the shield bubble and don't really need the new cloak that gives the stamina usage effect. If you go melee you absolutely need that new cloak as it makes you more efficient in combat and that extra swing or block is often the difference between life and death. Good video overall!
