I think your book does this really well I was really caught up in the characters the world building politics and the many discussions Amira and Daindreth have over the ethics of Amira's curse and morality and self worth that when the steamy kiss happened I got a bit of whiplash

Nalini Singh’s Psy-Changling series has so much excellent politics that I have reached unironic “I read it for the plot.” Like, I like the romance and the spice and prefer they have couples I like, but even if they don’t, I’m still reading it because WHAT ABOUT THE GEOPOLITICS????

Katherine Reay’s books are very important to me, in how they explore different themes and topics while also being romance-ish (there def is romance but almost feels more like a vehicle than the destination). Dear Mr. Knightley with the foster care system and how to deal with trauma and opening up to people who care about you, A Portrait of Emily Price with generational trauma and family secrets impacting the present, and The Printed Letter Bookshop/Of Literature and Lattes with the general messiness of life and how to move on when it feels like your life as you knew it had ended
