The experts have complained about the zing bails being too heavy, but today proved my view of the matter… it’s not the bails that are so much the problem…

the stumps are in too tight!

A ball could smash into the stumps at 140 kms and when you would expect the stump to fly out the ground, the most you’ll get is the stump rocked back a bit. It’s been like that for a while.

Case in point, that ball Mitch Johnson bowled Alistair cook with in 2013 at Adelaide.

150 kms straight into off stump. It rocked back a bit, whereas a ball that fast should have knocked the stump from the ground.

Yeah, the zing bails may be harder to dislodge, but really, if there’s more give in the ground where the stumps are, you take the bails from the equation

the first week of new year was filled with upsets, Newzealand losing to Bangladesh(that too in Newzealand) and India losing to South Africa(India's batting has been a major concern since 2018). i don't think England could win from here. they require big innings from Bairstow and Stokes and destructive bowling performance like that 36 all out.
