So possibly no Romanovs, Russian Revolution, Cold War, Atom bombs, space race, several other civil wars and internal conflicts, or Trololo if it wasn't for a Peruvian volcano?

When I first saw the title, I thought he was referring to the events in Northern Ireland.

A very interesting primary source for this topic, that sadly isn't available in a full English translation (as far as I know), is "The Beginning and Progress of the Muscovite War" by Hetman Stanisław Żółkiewski. He was the the most successful Polish commander of this war, having won the brilliant victory at Klushino, but also wasn't particularly enthusiastic about the whole thing and supported a diplomatic, compromise solution, which I think is a rather unique perspective. In his book he clearly tried to channel ancient authors: Cesar and Thucydides, and more importantly was critical towards the Polish King (which was something you could get away with in the PLC) and even more so towards Jerzy Mniszech and other Polish-Lithuanian magnates that gave the initial support for the false Dimitri.

With all the trials and tribulations they had to go through no wonder most Russians I've known tended to be aloof and tough as nails (except when with Babushka of course)
