Welcome to Screen Crush I'm your host Erik Voss and what the hell is going on with the ending of Moon Knight Episode 4. It's one of the biggest mind f**ks we've had in the MCU since Wandavision and there's so much going on with it that we need to breakdown.

The episode takes a turn at breakneck speed like Gwen Stacy and after Marc is apparently shot we dive into a movie called Tomb Buster before joining him on a psychiatric ward similar to 12 monkeys. Incase you haven't seen it that movie stars Bruce Willis as a time traveller who goes back to stop a killer virus from being unleashed. Unfortunately he travels back way too far and due to his craaazy stories about the future he's sent to an insane asylum.

Throughout the first act of the movie you're very much questioning whether the time travel storyline is actually real or if it's just the hallucinations of a Madman. That's definitely the vibe that I get from this episodes twists and this entire situation actually pulls directly from the comics. In almost every episode breakdown we've talked about something from the seminal Jeff Lemire run which featured Marc in a Psychiatric Hospital along with his other side characters such as Crawley who makes an appearance as a bingo caller.

Now you probably wanna know what happens in the book in order to understand what's going on here so for the first part of the video I'm just gonna dive right into it. I know in my breakdowns that I typically tend to do it in chronological order but this ending is so off the wall that even Michael Jackson would say it's bad to make you wait until the break of dawn for it.

Pffft

Sorry those were the only Michael Jackson songs that worked in that sentence. If you don't want things possibly ruined then I will leave timecodes below you can skip to but there's a couple of big changes they do in the show that mean they probably aren't following it completely.

Anyway, Marc is holed up in an asylum which is overseen by a Doctor named Dr. Emmett who is actually revealed to be Ammit. Her orderlies are called Billy and Bobby which just so happens to be the name of the two policemen that we were introduced to in Episode 2 who also happen to show up here. These two were revealed to be jackals which could have been referenced in the two jackals that have popped up in the series.

We definitely got Jake Lockley in that other coffin. I’m not going to be surprised when it’s opened next episode. I think Marc will let him free in order to get him and Steven out of that place.

This episode was absolutely amazing, and I don’t know how they are going to do better than that. But I also thought we couldn’t get better than episode 1-3, and I was wrong so we’ll see I guess.

WTF indeed! What a great episode, that’s the only marvel tv show that’s rivalling with WandaVision

Can’t wait for the episodes 5 and 6.

steven at the end be like "now u know what it feels for being coward"

I’m getting the sunken place vibes from where Marc is or someone is using the chaos magic to control their minds like Wanda did

That second sarcophagus has to be Jake, begging to finally be introduced into the show. Was left super confused yet insanely hyped to see where this twist takes us in the last two episodes. Such a well directed series.

Im thinking marc doesnt want to let jake out. Marc is always looking out for steven because thats who marc wants to be. I think naturally jake is the darker side. Which is why there is chaos in the scales. There has to be a darker side to stevens light. Marc is the balance the whole one. He is split between his light side and his dark side. Marc is bound to konshu and jake loves it. Jake is the chaos that is only unleashed when Marc needs to do konshu’s business. Jake was targeting Layla’s dad and Marc ended up falling in love with her. Jake killed Layla’s dad, marc shot himself trying to kill jake. Unable to live with what he did he created steven to deal with what jake did.

I feel like MARC knows about the third personality. I think it was created/popped up before Steven but Marc suppressed it due to it being to violent. Notice how Marc wasn't surprised to see the other sarcophagus but Steven was?

Am I the only one who's heart was warmed when steven and marc embraced each other in the hospital? Oh, and the second coffin was definitely jake lockley

The transition between marc and Steven is always easy and smooth like in between fights and talks..but whenever there's a blackout I think it's Jake taking control.. Also u see blackout in ep3 when one of the knifeman is dead and neither marc nor steven take its responsibility therefore it was Jake

Im not entirely sure if this was intended, but Harrow shot him twice. One bullet for Steven, one for Marc, the only alters he is aware of.

Love the part when the mummy pulls Layla into the darkness, she runs out and it pulls her back in again. That was pretty clever and unexpected, props Diab and Isaac for bringing us something special.

I love that they showed mark has a third personality like they did last episode with the other tomb that was right side up, it has to be Jake

If Marc is trapped in the Other Void or his mind, does it mean that Ammit has been released?
Because in the comics too, the asylum is managed by Ammit as the lady right?!

I love that everyone is coming here right after seeing the episode 😂

I feel like a lot of people don't know that the hippo goddess runs a fertility clinic for old gods and goddesses or broken ones in mythology. Maybe they are there?

Ngl, the Fertility Goddess’s (I’m not gonna try and spell her name) ears flickering when she said “hi” was super cute.
Also I’m really digging how the show hints at Jake. Gives him a very antagonistic air, almost like he’s the personality that shouldn’t be set free.
