Inside Seattle's 'Autonomous Zone'. No police allowed.

Amidst nationwide protests in the U.S. over the death of George Floyd and biased policing, a pocket of Seattle has emerged as a police-free zone.

Protesters have occupied an entire city block of the Capitol Hill Neighborhood, including a police station. They started out calling it the 'Capitol Hill Autonomous Zone' or CHAZ.

Here is what happened during my one hour visit.

I just want to remind all that when you create an “autonomous zone, ” you don’t get to demand a long list of supplies from the orderly capitalist society that you are rebelling against. Kind of defeats the meaning of “autonomous.”

"the police are not welcome here" - a guy walks around in an edgy Halloween costume with a 9mm sidearm telling people what to do and what not to. This looks something out of Far Cry 5: surreal, delusional and edgy.

coming back to this a few years later and I still get a giggle of this, It's like when a 5 year old makes a fort in the kitchen and says no parents allowed and then demands for food and throws a tantrum.
