WashU has released its Class of 2028 profile - but with some pretty important information missing. Today we compare WashU's 2028 data to that from its Class of 2027.

As of this afternoon, the first link below is active again and shows the racial/ethnic demographics of WashU's Class of 2028:

26% Asian
8% Black or African American
12% Hispanic
1% Native American/Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander
5% Race/Ethnicity unknown
37% White
11% International
21% Total Underrepresented Students of Color (URSOC)
47% Total Students of Color

WashU's Class of 2027 was reported as follows:

27% Asian
12% Black or African American
13% Hispanic
1% Native American/Native Hawaiian/Other Pacific Islander

*August 25, 2024 Update*
As of this morning, WashU has removed all data from the first link below. When visited, the page now reads, "Hmm. We weren’t able to find that page. We’d love to help connect you with the information you were seeking. Please try a search." Maybe WashU is preparing a new Class of 2028 profile for release soon?

Per their website:
I understand that race/ethnicity cannot be used as part of the admissions process. If I choose to provide this information, what will you do with it?
"When available, we are required to report this information to the federal government to remain in compliance."

This means that they do not need to put this information in their Profile with other Class of 2028 details because that profile is not a government mandated place to note that information. It's not about hiding anything.

Probably not reporting it because DEI is essentially illegal now. I could see it being either way, honestly. If they're not accepting DEI people into their school, that would be embarrassing and cause a lot of drama they don't want to deal with. But if they are accepting DEI people, then that could cause a lot of problems with people who don't like DEI. Honestly it's lose-lose. I went to WashU almost a decade ago, and when I went it was a pretty inclusive environment. But now I could see that causing problems, especially since every URM (or rather the school) is going to need to prove they belong now in order to justify that spot being used on them.
