I'm always amazed at how involved automation was back before digital. Having a room full of people automating everything in real time as the mix and masters were being printed. It was a real artform that's been lost. I wouldn't want to go back, but it's something I always appreciate when listening to older albums

Its goood to see these moves;;
its real passion and soul that goes into the tracks.

I too find my self doing this when restoring and re mastering old 90s rave tracks for record labels.... once printed, and you listen back to it a week or more after you get a real buzz from it...

Real time automation is "the holy gralle" of mixing but it can also be "The road to hell" if you're un- experienced (a lot of practise, try and error ...) and you don't do it right at the right time. It can make your mix sound "out of this world", "alive" in no time. Some old mixes where so sophisticated (read: complex) it took decades to "uncifer" them in many different aspects ... People get bored quickly especially nowdays ... The song only lasts 3 to 5 minutes and it better be "the wild trip" and not "a work at the office" with predictable scenes ...

That was beautiful. Seeing how it was done long ago.

Just thought i’d share: I try to automate as much as i can live trough studio one and my Faderport. Its just so much more fun that way. It automaps all parameters of plugins so i can just find the right one, set it in write and press play. Or do multiple parameters at the same time in the channel editor macro view in studio one. There i can with just a few clicks get the exciter threshold and compressor threshold side by side on the faderport. Yes i know i can draw stuff in with a pen but its not the same.

It would be nice if all hardware devices came with cv inputs. It should be a no-brainer nowadays with daws in the picture.

ok, I really like maag on this one either it could be a little too bright/present for some, regardless really really liked it, on the other hand I didn't like pass eq one at all ( sorry I know this is a fire gear, but not for this particular one for me ), but the final effect after automation.. really top!!! Just hope this is not some psychological trick ...but I really heard the difference!! woow

Ciao, similar using MANUALLY the knobs/fader of a midi controller configured with the Daw. I suspect the sound difference is due to the great sound of your hardware! 😉👍 Ciao

That is a huge difference! Capturing that perfect energy on that transition heheh 🔥💥👊🏼(without destroying anything) I was actually doing something similar, that's literally taking a project to the next level. Not easy stuff..it really takes ear's and feel. Awesome job David🤘 Stay safe

Can you charge extra for manual automation? Calories burned? Cost-plus billing? :) ☺️

Ha! you're like a happy kid in a candy shop :)
Indeed, tweaking analog knobs is
more satisfying than mouse clicking. LOL...

I wonder if Acustica Celestial would have worked for this?
