Gale is the most popular Origin Character but he much more than that, he is arguably also the most interesting, with a story that ties into ancient Netheril, human pride and value and ultimately, what it means to be human in the context of DnD. This then is an attempt to explore both the lore of Netheril and the place of humans in Faerun by examining Gale's story as a portal to understaning these things.

My favorite ending for Gale is when you romance Gale, but refuse to stay in Waterdeep, because he becomes a traveling adventurer along side you. 2nd favorite Is Gale romanced by a Spawn Asatrion, and goes on to take care of the thousands of Vampires in the Underdark and teaches them to read and learn.

since Mystra is an accidental creation of Shar and Selune, it means that magic is something in between those two, and the Orb could be the cosmic darkness of Shar.

You encapsulated Gale's essence as a character, beautifully here. Gale, to me at least, is the ultimate path of arete to hubris to nemesis to redemption and then back to arete again. Which is why I like the self sacrifice route, too. It plays straight into the "a flawed hero that's on a quest of redemption and reconciliation with both himself and the world at large" trope that humanity has loved and been able to relate to for centuries upon centuries now.

The algorithm blessed me with a Gale video! I love that funny magic man. I always thought his god ending was indisputably his bad end, pretty explicitly written by Larian, as he’s such a dique and pretty much became everything he said he hated about gods, abandoning his very sweet humanity. Like a more subtle version of ascended Astarion.

I never had the heart to blow him up because his projection says that the orb obliterates his soul along with his body, so yeah let’s just beat the brain with pointy sticks instead lol
