Wing Foiling | Best Boards Overview

Wing foiling, wing surfing, hand kite, wing ding....whatever you call this hot new sport, everyone wants to talk about it but not many people have firsthand knowledge. We have been fortunate enough to have gotten some prototypes in late spring from most of our brands, and I can tell you we are hooked. Although we were skeptical at first, thinking it might be too difficult, need tons of wind, or just get boring after the novelty wore off.

After a couple sessions, progressing past the learning curve and getting some long rides I can tell you that we were hooked. Wing foiling is not as fast as kiteboard foiling or windsurf foiling and it needs a bit more wind but the simplicity, accessibility, and freedom is undeniable. After playing in some small waves, I can tell you that my stoke is on record high level for our larger down-winding swell this fall. I love surf and SUP hydrofoiling in waves, but the downtime waiting for waves and the limitation of breaking waves keeps you waiting more than riding. The wind wings give you the ability to choose waves and start to ride them far before they would be catch-able on another craft. After your ride ends, either by a mistake you made or the necessity to drive back upwind (yes they do go upwind), you simply change directions and blast back out into the lineup to do it again. Want the basics of how to get started? Check out our blog about that...

Thanks for the info Tucker. I've had about 20 sessions on my Slingwing and I absolutely love it. First few sessions I used a Naish Hokua 9'1" with foilmount and Moses Tortuga 71 cm mast and 873 wing. (Kitefoiling for 4 yrs, and I weigh 170lbs). Getting up on foil is really tough in less than 15 knots. I'd say 15 - 25 knots is ideal for winging with a big foil and short/think board. I've also tried Kalama 6'6" and Naish Hover 95L. Both are great boards for wing foiling. In one of the Wing-surfer videos Robby Naish mentioned he can wing in 12 knots....but that's way too light for me. I've seen kites up in 6 knots and windsurfers w/ foils in 10 knots. But with my experience/skills winging on foil needs 15-25 knots.

There seem to be many "Naish Hover" boards out there - can you please help me narrow it down (sup, wind, crossover for ex)? I am about 200lbs, 5'7 and coming from normal SUP and moving into wing foiling so I have no foiling experience...but I hope to get a board I can learn on but also grow into...recommendations?

Hi, I watched and listened very carefully your video, and as you say, it seems to me the best way for down wind(g)ing. I never had the cahnce to get on a foil, but as I come from surf, windsurfing, kite surfing and SUP, I think I will get one of these. Actually it was my friend who told me about wing surfing, I already heard of it, but was not curious at that time. I am 55 and living in Tahit, so when I watch videos, I was hooked, and know for sure this is what I have been waiting for riding waves easily. I was thinking of getting an efoil board, but the price (and autonomy) is really too high. Fortunately wings are coming now, and my friend and I will surely be on the water very soon.

Thanks for your video, after watching diiferent ones to look how it is, yours helps me for choosing the right boards.

Let's solve the naming right now

The first part of the word describes how power is generated: Kite, Wing, Wind (ok not perfect)
The second part of the word described the board: surfing, boarding, foiling

Now we combine them as needed (and eliminate the ones that don't exist)
wingsurfing
wingfoiling
kitesurfing
kitefoiling
kiteboarding
windsurfing
windfoiling

let's not over complicate things.

I like your unbiased videos and your style!
I live in Cambodia, am 57 years old and retired. I was a good windsurfer, wave rider in my younger days. Also a skateboarder loving the half pipe and at a later age i became a fanatic snowboarder. I also run a marathon and did a lot of cycling. However, when i was 47 I had a brain stroke. I have recovered quite good now and like to try wing boarding. I started to practice very carefully longbord skateboarding again.
I live in front of a big lake with steady winds, mostly 3 to 4 beaufort. I really want to give wing foiling a try but there is no watersport here and no schools. Would you think I should follow this dream or rather go fishing😉 Am 95 kilos but was 75 kilos before the stroke.

Very nice video guys. Now that a few months have passed and gear has evolved. What are your recommendations now?
What do you think about the inflatable boards like the F-One Rocket Air?

Hi, nice video do you think we can ride with a kite this wing sup foil dedicated board? The main idea is to kite under 12kts using these boards and been able to come back to shore paddling instead of swimming if the wind die. And if the wind is above 12kts wing foil with the sup foil or kite foil with a smaller board.

Another informative video. Thanks Tucker &MacK. Request. Review comparing the S25 Naish Wing boards v. the Fanatic Sky Wing boards. Interested in the Fanatic with the eliminated the mid-foot bump or whatever it was called. Would appreciate your opinion on which brand assuming correct volume for specific skill level and body mass would be better for beginner(no foil or wind sport experience), intermediate and advance rider. Which brand would be still fun as one progress up a level.

Oldish video. Now all those mid length downwind boards but definitely not for beginners. Can someone learn to wing foil on a narrow longer board? Tougher to learn how to jibe though I would say

Just put wing in front of whatever wing activity, kite in front of any kite activity and wind in front of any windsurf activity 🤷‍♂️
Wing foiling wing surfing wing supping
Wing skating wing skiing wing boarding

If you use SUP, then wing foiling does not suit that well. Wing Surfing sounds better.

Lets just call it wingin' then it doesnt matter what the board or other activity is
