VIDEO DESCRIPTION:
What do you get when you combine some super rare Polaroid Polapan 51HC 4x5 peel apart film and a night of solo camping in Arizona? A little bit of a mental breakdown, that's what. But don't worry, it's nothing a Fuji GW690II can't fix. I just needed to get my mind on something else. Oh, and a motel room to escape the incessant wind.

Once I got my mind right I found my way into the groove where I exposed some Kodak Portra on 6x9 and 6x17 formats. The next day I'd tackle Polapan 51HC again, hoping to get some worthwhile compositions on this long-expired film. Or if I didn't get any worthwhile compositions, I would hopefully at least NOT SCREW IT UP. This film is the most difficult I've ever worked with but hot damn the results are cool lookin'.

There is nothing better than refreshing YouTube and seeing a Nick Carver on location video. Feels like Christmas!

While I think your photos are always gold, I think your skills as a storyteller don’t get enough credit!

i loved the part where you circumnavigated the globe for your light meter! 12:20 sheer dedication

What I've found helpful the last few months is stopping and asking myself why I am taking the photos in the first place and what the intention is behind the need to be motivated. If you are just trying to get motivated in order to capture something on camera, as opposed to waiting until you maybe see how the light is falling on a cactus/landscape in a certain way, you'll be doomed from the get-go.

4:22 Nearly as good as John Candy in Trains, Planes and Automobiles. Seriously, I love these On Location videos. Inspires me to do the same while I sit here scanning seemingly infinite frames of film.

As someone who bought the 4-hour extended play version and someone watching his videos since the Joshua tree days, I can say this is Nick's best video and I really hope it's the first in a series!

Fantastic work Nick, great video and storytelling! I think its so important to show what you did around the 9 min mark. The creative process its such a wild rollercoaster of emotions and often times people only see the success, rather then all the challanges along the way.

I REALLY like the close up cactus shot at 8:33. I like the color, I like the subject, and I like the composition. Great work!

I was going to buy this anyway but this video prompted me to buy it now. Thanks so much for showing the struggles. I know it's not just me, but it always feels like I'm the only one struggling to find inspiration and regretting even trying. Thanks for sharing the highs and the lows.

Whew, I watched this from an airbnb after a total failure of a day of photography/inspiration. Instead of sticking it out, I went home early.

Just came to check if this is still the best photography channel on YouTube - it is!

Production quality is top notch, I hope people realize how much work and planning there is for an on location video like this, plus he’s doing this solo, at least I think, anyway Nick is in a class of his own.

Your on location videos are some of my favourite photography videos on the platform. That utter depletion of drive and inspiration feels all too common, and is only made worse when you have invested time, effort and money into making a trip happen. It makes you feel all sorts of guilt, regret, frustration, and so on. But despite that, and maybe partially because of that, you've put out this video that not only takes us on that journey with you, but is also deeply relatable to many of us. All whilst still making some stunning photos. Appreciate you and all that you do.

Wow, do I know that feeling! Just spent 8 days in Tucson right next to the Rincon Mountains and hardly triggered the shutter despite lugging 40 lbs of camera gear across the country.

At work I get inspired about the places I want to go back to, to do better. When take a weekend to get there, I'm so like - "forget it, I've already done this"..

I am now watching the whole series on your webpage. This one hit me the hardest. Whatever the photo version of writer's block is frustrating. It is like you were narrating my inner thoughts.

Despite your mood, you took some real bangers at 8-10min mark! Beautiful light.

Bought the 4 hours extended video, I did really enjoy it. Worth it any penny, entertaining and well done like any Nick video. Well done and hoping for more
