In the midst of the pandemic, Morag explored the question 'What Now? Permaculture kitchen garden.

She encourages us to be part of a peaceful, practical [r]evolution around the world repairing the earth and caring for people one kitchen garden at a time - in our homes and communities, with the most vulnerable and with youth. The world needs thoughtful, caring and innovative permaculture ambassadors and [pr]activists everywhere! .

The key themes she discusses are:

EDIBLE GARDEN REVIVAL
Let's create edible gardens everywhere and explore ways to amplify the abundance. Bringing the food economy home brings a sense of real security in a time of vulnerability, and feeds our immune systems too.

COMMUNITY FOOD [R]EVOLUTION
Beyond our backyards and balconies, communities are self-organising and cooperating to relocalise food systems in mutual aid. We'll explore examples from around the world to inspire your local action.

KITCHEN GARDENS IN REFUGEE CAMPS
Lockdown is devastating vulnerable communities - especially displaced peoples. Rations don't go far enough. Learn how permaculture gardens can make all the difference and how you can help.

PERMAYOUTH [PR]ACTIVISM
Face the future anxiety with everyday practical activism - I call [pr]activism. How can you positively support youth to live the change they want to see in the world, beginning at home, in the garden and local community, and reaching out across Earth to connect with one another.

It's time to create permaculture gardens wherever we can and support people in communities everywhere, youth too, to become local permaculture teachers, designers and practitioners.

As an Australian who grew up in Canada, right next to the States, I was in tears this morning watching the riots. You’ve restored my hope that change is happening and that humanity is good. Thanks so much Morag.

Hi Morag. I am from Melbourne and have been following your teachings for a couple of years now. I was new to permaculture and now tell anyone willing to listen and learn about this common sense approach of growing food and living more sustainably. You mention you are looking for people to assist in your programs. I am wondering how I could lend a hand …

I’m from NE Montana, USA - I subscribed before COVID-19 as I’m always trying to learn more about gardening. I’m sure many have tuned in since the crisis has shown how fragile our food systems are. Welcome to those and be encouraged! Gardens have fed the multitudes since the beginning of time.

Hi Morag from Melbourne Australia, I am so sad to see the riots in the US. My family of five will soon be moving to a country town to start a new life. We have been impacted by the virus as we a small business owners and have not received anything from our government. We decided to move due to our need to ensure a safe and healthy life for me daughters. I have grown my own for the last 30 years and never use any toxins in my garden. I follow the moon for my planting times as this keeps me organised.

Thank you from Germany <3 food foresting is the way to go!!! I`m planting away since 2010. If I knew about Permaculture before I would have started much earlier. But it`s never too late to plant a

Maine, US here! Grateful to have found your content. Thank you for all of your hard work!

I have some potatoes growing... growing what I can with the ground I have access to! We cannot expect government to fix anything, let alone everything..
No reason or sense in trusting or relying the government to fix society!

Dr. Morag Thank you very much for all the videos. Very wonderful. Can I ask you to send me the method of preparing vermicompost in a tube as I explained in the video or if you have a reference.

Love the connections being made. I always thought design had to be neat and tidy and fit within the format, none of which I’m any good at, partly because of blindness but mostly because I’m quite free with wild imagination and expression. Recently I was asked why I put the food Forrest where it is, the rotational horse paddocks where they are and the chicken area where it is and why I chose to do deep mulching and no Swales or spirals. The answer was pretty simple, digging through rock is hell and just not workable. The water gets pulled down by the deep mulch and stays there a long time. The chicken area is on the top of the food forest slope and near the kitchen garden to easily use the muck and any that isn’t used goes down to the food forest and the nutrients not used by the forest flows down into the horse area to feed the grass as we use the manure as compost. The water that gets to the creek after all that is slower and cleaner so less flooding. So apparently my wild forest and random placing of areas, is by design. Just thought I’d share that as others might be thinking the same as I once did, and turn away from things that will probably benefit them because they feel they might be out of place. I think all sustainable ideas have place. Thanks for all your teaching.

Thanks again Morag! I'd love to see a conversation about creating community non-monetary economies. This could be a way to support each other in our towns while introducing people to.permaculture principles. Especially given the current economic situation many people are in.
