To others watching: you can use self signed certificates depending on the environment/context you are using the certificates in. E.g., a microservice environment -- where external clients (like browsers) don't need to talk to any of the services you build -- doesn't need to have certs from LetsEncrypt or DigiCert (there are plenty more). Lots of companies take this approach for private CAs.
