Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have figured out how to use light to detect brain signals in the visual areas of the brain, and then decode those signals to determine what image the person was seeing. The accomplishment is a step toward developing light-based methods of decoding brain signals as a communication aid for people who are unable to communicate due to cerebral palsy, stroke or other conditions.
