The STIHL FSA 120 and FSA 120 R are two brand-new battery-powered brushcutters in the STIHL AP System of battery tools. Replacing the STIHL FSA 90, the FSA 120 offers 40% more power and is compatible with a wider range of cutting attachments for greater versatility. So, if you’re a professional looking for a lightweight, entry-level cordless brushcutter, the STIHL FSA 120 could be the tool for you.

The FSA 120 cordless brushcutter features a bike handle, designed for clearing large open areas. Alternatively, the FSA 120 R has a loop handle that positions the tool across the body, perfect for quickly trimming lawn edges and around tight obstacles. Adjusting the loop handle has never been easier thanks to the new quick-release system. Simply release the orange clamp and move the handle to a position that best suits you.

Weighing just over 6 kilograms with the recommended STIHL AP 300 S battery, the FSA 120 is perfectly balanced, easy to manoeuvre and comfortable to use for prolonged periods. The harness hook can also be adjusted to suit you, helping to spread the weight of the tool on your shoulders.
Using the FSA 120 cordless brushcutter is easy. After checking the work areas for wildlife, slot in the battery, push the lever forward with your thumb, and then with your hand across the grip, simply pull the trigger.

You have a choice of two power levels when using the STIHL FSA 120 brushcutter. Eco mode can be used for lighter tasks, such as trimming lawn edges, and it reduces the rpm to extend the run time. Level 2 is for maximum performance and demanding applications, such as clearing scrub. In both modes the variable trigger also allows you to adjust the speed to suit the job at hand, thanks to the brushless EC motor.

The bike handle FSA 120 brushcutter includes a metal cutting blade as standard. The blade is great for overgrown weeds and woodier stems. The grass blade offers up to 100 minutes of working time with the recommended STIHL AP 300 S battery whilst in Eco mode or 60 minutes at full power. Grass blades contribute towards a longer working time compared to a line head, making them a popular choice for cordless brushcutters.

The loop handle FSA 120 R comes with a STIHL AutoCut 27-2 mowing head which works well around obstacles such as plant pots and pathways. The FSA 120 R battery-powered brushcutter has a working time of up to 50 minutes with the AutoCut head whilst in Eco mode or 30 minutes at full power.

A variety of grass blades, AutoCut, TrimCut and PolyCut heads can be fitted to either of the FSA 120 brushcutters to best suit your needs, and the tool will automatically detect which attachment is fitted and optimise the rpm accordingly for best performance. For example, you will get up to 7800 rpm with a line head, or 9700 rpm with a metal blade.

The FSA 120 cordless brushcutter is compatible with any AP System battery, ranging from the AP 200 to the AP 500 S depending on the working time required. There are over 30 tools in the STIHL AP System, meaning the AP battery system can be used for all your landscaping tasks.

You can also use it with the STIHL Smart Connector, a small device that records the working time and operating speed of the tool. This information is sent via Bluetooth to the STIHL Connected App, where it can be synced to a maintenance schedule. For large fleets of battery or petrol tools, STIHL Connected offers a smart and streamlined way of ensuring all tools are kept in great condition.

It's important to wear the correct PPE when using a brushcutter. Eye and face protection is essential to protect against stones and debris, we’d also recommend a sturdy pair of work boots and a pair of grippy gloves.
