This is an important reminder for me that I need to take really good care of my kids mental health.

my mom has it, but despite having depression throughout the years, it didn’t become noticeable until her 40s when some tough things happened in her life and she broke. I’m 32 and always terrified something’s going to trigger it in me since I’ve always struggled with anxiety/depression. Always feel like I’m one mental breakdown away from it activating.

My grandmother was schizophrenic, my aunt was schizophrenic, her son
And daughter are both schizoaffective. My mother is schizoaffective. I am bipolar and so is my daughter. It’s tough .

This is something that scares me. My mother had it and my family got torn apart after she got off her meds. Both my brother and I have depression and possibly other mental health issues. I'm so scared that someday I could develop it and not handle it properly. I just don't want that trauma to repeat.

10 years ago I was in clinical trial - kid’s & siblings of parents with bipolar disorder. (Black dog institute in Australia) They wanted to see who would develop it. My mother has bipolar 1 & I developed it bipolar 1 at 23. My brother was also in the trial and does not have it.

This is very interesting facts. Someone in my family needs to come out of denial.

My mom was ADHD. Im ADHD. My mom was codependent and I was codependent. My moms mother is Narcissistic and Paranoid. My dad and my sister are NPD. My dad's dad was NPD.
People terrify me and I now deal with Agoraphobia.

As someone that actually has not only bipolar II but quite some other mental diagnosis that are genetic this was one of the factors that made me not want kids. All of my familly in my mom's side, going up to my grandma, has mental illneses, i know how bad it is to live like this, i dont want to cause other people to have to suffer as much as i do

My mom and dad were both diagnosed with bipolar 1 and adhd. My grandma had bipolar 2 and psychosis before she passed. I was diagnosed with adhd when I was 6, and have not been checked for bipolar yet, although Im pretty sure I have it. The chances of me having it is too high, majority of my family has it. Talk about dysfunctional 😂

Diseases like epilepsy, go hand in hand w bipolar. It’s more than common for epileptic’s to have bipolar or some type of mental illness. If you add genetics on top of epilepsy, your chances are great of developing some sort of mood disorder, depression and ultimately bipolar. There’s been so little research on epilepsy, that the general public doesn’t have a clue how it affects the mind and body.

Is it the same risk for an atypical bipolar disorder, please?

It is complicated trying to explain this topic because intergenerational was left out, I know the answer but not percent of risk (father and grandfather ) But I I am the one to get it
