I personally, like Ano chan. I think she just lives her life unfiltered, what you see is what you get.

Japan likes rock and roll but can’t wrap its head around the rock and roll personality.

I was lucky enough to attend a meet and greet with her, and I was starstruck. She was kind, cute and relaxed with this sort of heavenly aura to her. My broken limited Japanese made me seem even more nervous than I was but she understood and was warm and welcoming. It was quite an experience I’ll probably never get over

It's from the The First Take video that I learnt she is actually very good at singing and is just overshadowed by her style. The comments section says she showed her true powers albeit only for a couple seconds by accident, and I thought it's really funny. You can see exactly where that part is when you check the most viewed part of the video on the visualized timeline

her song 「普変」pretty directly addresses her personality quirks and also elaborates on her personal experiences really well. After listening to that song I could imagine a lot more what her experience is like dealing with the criticism and why she is the person she is.

I'm sad that she wasn't able to make it through school, but also she seems to have done pretty well for herself and takes no shit from anybody and I respect the hell out of that.

I saw her twice.
I’m not super sure about “she is playing a character”, most probably (like everyone else working in the entertainment) but I can see some familiarity with this disorder..
She never said something about it and I feel Japan isn’t open yet for that.
But who cares-
She is cute, pretty crazy and unique!

I kept getting McDonald's Japan commercials with her. They're fantastic.

her difficulties with socializing, school, and volume control (being too quiet with customers) plus her unusual behaviors lead me to believe she could be on the autism spectrum, which you dont see much with idols. dare i say there was even footage of her stimming/hand flapping while you spoke of her behavior. regardless, im glad to have learned of her! we need more idols like her in the industry.

edit: the way many are responding i'd like to clarify i'm autistic as well!

Y'know what, I like her. I wasn't aware of her before this video, but I like her style. Exactly the kind of idol I'd want to hire if I was running an agency. As it is, I'll jsut be one of the quiet fans in the background who simply know what we like and enjoy watching unique idols that don't necessarily fit the "mold." ;)

Not only an absolute cutie, but a really talented individual. Reminds me of a less hardcore, less menhera, more family friendly Mariko Goto.

To me, it is almost far too easy to draw parallels between Ano-san and Bjork. Listen to Ano then Bjork (and Bjork's earlier group The Sugar Cubes) and it's almost like Ano is a J-Pop version of Bjork! I wonder what it would be like to hear Bjork and Ano on the same stage at the same time singing the same song?

I remember watching a Japanese interview of her. In the interview she says she visited and stayed in Cambodia to do a photoshoot and met kids at an orphanage. While she was staying Cambodia and she considered Cambodia as her 2nd home. Pretty much, the country of Cambodia rehabilitated her when she went through depression.

Being a huge fan of Ano-chan's music and someone who often attends her concerts, I must say your video is spot-on and well-researched! It's a shame that there's still resistance in Japan, especially among the older crowd, as you rightly pointed out, towards the openness and honesty that Gen Z, like Ano-chan, brings. Let's hope for a positive shift in attitudes soon!
