T1N Sprinter Limp Home Mode, How to Reset Without Stopping!

In this short video Bill shows us how to get our vans out of Limp Home Mode without stopping on the side of the road. Limp Home Mode, or LHM is your van telling you something is wrong & preventing damage to itself. We do not recommend driving far in LHM or resetting it frequently, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t done it thousands of times with no ill effect. As you can see in the slow motion, Bill has practiced this too much!

My god, what a great video, I was laughing. Thank-you for Info. I wish someone would make a series this good and informative for the second gen sprinters.

This is definitely your best video until now. I especially like the PowerPoint presentation you have running in the background with all the informative causes for limp mode including h1 N1, El nino, mother-in-law sneezing. It is hilarious I still have to go back and figure out what you're trying to say about rolling reset.

We used to do something similar as teenagers, just to make a huge back fire noise!! until it blows the muffler out! it’s loud and it freaks people out!! hilarious until you have to replace your muffler. Lol

I'd have to shift to neutral to even think about trying it.

Hey guys, any chance you might be interested in doing a video on Fuse Box #1 removal and ignition switch replacement? Love the channel. D (Tampa)

I figured out how to do this as a teenager driving my mom's Dodge Neon. I would recommend shifting into neutral then turning off and on. I liked doing it to freak my mom out but nothing bad ever came from doing it :)

Thank you for this video! My 2003 T1N goes to limp mode intermittently, sometimes I'll do this and it's good for the whole trip or several. Other times, it'll go limp several times in one trip. New fuel filter & MAF. Fuel lines are good(no air bubbles). Does cracked boost plumbing cause intermittent limp or is it usually a more consistent failure? No check engine light.

So we replace the EGR valve the wood did the turbo upgrade a lot to this van but it still goes into limp mode we have a 3500 2004 sprinter

Can this be done with no key only push button start?

What about the EDC light and engine shutting off. You got a trick for that also?

This would have worked on my 2017 but recently went to a 2021 so I have the button start. Can you do the same thing with the button and it will work?

With doing this not engaged the starter motor? And destroy it? It precisely because you're doing it quickly that it doesn't engage the starter motor?
Thanks!

Thank you Bill - Limp Mode is more dangerous than a mother in laws tongue when dealing with road trains and small thin country roads here in Australia. Mercedes dealer also have no idea how to fix but can charge you a lot of money to prove it? I will certainly trial this method of resetting - last trip of 1000km had over 80 limp mode pull over resets with no dash light indication as to issue - again dangerous narrow roads, minimal shoulder, 100km per hour (60mph) speed limit, busy country road and I had my 2 grandchildren with me - never again Mercedes never again. Someone with some money should really consider a class action against this money grabbing insanely dangerous foolishness. Flashing dash warning lights yes, but not no warning decrease in speed - people are going to get hurt if they haven't already? As you can tell very angry so will stop rant now - apologies
