Delphi Economic Forum III: March 1-4, 2018
NEW GLOBALIZATION AND GROWTH CHALLENGES

Session 7 - Identity and diversity: the future of Europe

In the current debate about the future of the EU, politicians as well as the media are warning of a tendency by member states to shift their focus back to their own national interests and of a subsequent loss of significance of the EU. How are policymakers reacting to actual changes in the attitudes of EU citizens?

Delphi Economic Forum III took place between March 1st and 4th 2018, aiming to identify the main global trends, assess their implications and review the resulting challenges and policy options confronting decision-makers of the wider Eastern Mediterranean Region. Moreover, it placed Greece’s need for structural reforms and new leadership strategies under the microscope with the aim to explore a new model of governance.

Forgive me Mr. Ambassador, but what we need from Germany is less of this "amorphous" and "undefined" Europa stuff and more of a tangible, demonstrable and unambiguous German support for Greece in a manner that dispels any misconceptions about today's Germany interested more in a free trade zone for its products and less about the dignity of smaller nations like Greece which by the way deserves 100% unqualified German support on many levels. Enough of this European identity in the making. Europe is comprised of sovereign nations and will continue to be so in perpetuity. Just tell us what more you can do for Greece and not what Greece needs to do for German ideas and concepts. We had enough of sacrifice already in supporting your common currency on which the entire German livelihood absolutely depends. Time for German concrete action with the sole beneficiary being this time the Greek people who kept your common market intact and Germany still in business via blood, tears and toil.
