The INCREDIBLE story of the Rebbe and Shimshon Stock

Surprising as it may sound, it wasn’t always so certain that he’d become such a staunch Chassid and devoted Jew. Rambunctious and somewhat rebellious, he was a fun-loving American teenager in the 1940s, when he met the Rebbe one day while on his way to the movies.

The ensuing relationship transformed his life – and the lives of many, many others.

Shimshon had a way to say things to the Rebbe that we all want to, but don’t have the Chutzpah to do so. But Shimshon did it. He spoke for all of us.

This was beautiful and profound. Much appreciation to Reb Stock who was willing to speak of himself and his growth so openly. All I know is, as a former Beis Rivka student in the early 70s who stayed with my Crown Heights classmates for Shabbos often, the home of Reb Shimshon Stock was known as the happening place! His daughter Chanie was a peer of mine. Now I've gained some deeper insight!

I feel like he's making it out to be a zero sum game. Either he engages with the world and isn't frum, or he only learns Torah and is frum. That's a false binary. There is modern orthodoxy which combines Torah im Derech Eretz
