Forget China and Mexico. We're Being Replaced by Robots

In the last 50 years, the US has lost 60 million jobs to automation, changes in technology and cheaper labor overseas. But while everyone’s sitting here worried about jobs moving to China and down to Mexico, we need to worry about automation. It’s estimated that one day, 80 million more US jobs will be replaced by robots.

A lot of basic jobs such as packing and shipping are already being being replaced by robots. Cashiers and fast food positions are being transitioned over to machines. And the transportation industry is next. They’ve been testing self driving big rigs for months in Arizona. In 5 years, 3 million big rig drivers will likely be out of work. And of course, there are mechanics and logistics people who will also be fired and replaced by robots.

Self driving trains are also on the horizon. They say computer train drivers will cause far fewer accidents, since most train wrecks are human error.

Sounds like a lot of people will have to learn how to build robots to earn a living since very soon they’ll be replaced by robots.

I'm an automation engineer in the automotive industry. You're absolutely correct, It's happening now.

That's why there is a lot of talk about everyone being given a living wage when robots take jobs away .
What's the point of automation to produce items cheaper with greater profit if no one has the money to buy the thing anyway .

The current shipping jobs to oversea issue is just a smoke screen for automation and AI technology.

What a laugh.
Only low skill jobs get replaced.
I Can’t wait to see a robot fix a carpentry, plumbing, plaster, tile or roofing issue on my victorian home.
🤣😂🤣😂

We need to be very worried about self driving cars and trucks sharing the road with us. 😬

I only use cash and only use human cashiers/employees.I don't even have a bank acct so shopping in places that don't accept my cash, simply don't get my business.

In Australia they’ve had self driving goods trains for years. The big diesels that pull 2/3 miles long of carriages non stop for days and days on end or all remote controlled. It’s saves paying for a free to man and operate the trains at a huge cost. Not sure about self driving trucks though? Sounds like a accident waiting to happen.

I have a self driving car, from experience I would not want a self driving semi on the road with me, the car can not handle hard turns and dnt attempt to use it in the rain the it can not read the road well in bad weather

I can’t wait for most jobs to be replaced by robots. Humans suck these days. Robots don’t constantly complain or give you attitude.

Andrew Yang was the only Democrat that even uttered this in the debates, and as usual, he was ignored. Others just basically said, "naw we'll just create programs for truckers to learn code or some crap"

Yes but 50 years is a very long time to measure a job loss. Millions of NEW jobs have been generated as well.

Eventually, the only jobs available will be robot repair technicians and CEOs.

Woe, that is creepy. I wanna go back to 1974 so I can prepare for 2025. It’s gonna get messy. 😱

This is true. I design automation for systems mostly for augmenting output and also for efficiency. This means entry level positions will soon require more advanced skillset to manage automated systems.
