How To Use a Military Can Opener - a Demonstration

How a military can opener works. I use it to open canned food. Small lightweight design makes it good for backpacking and travel.

U.S. Shelby Co. P-51 can openers. Handle is 2" long and has a hinged blade. The added length affords more leverage and doesn't require as much thumb pressure to use. The P-38 is a shorter version of this.

@ 0:00, the P-51 can opener shows its identification as "US Shelby Co". This is because the US Shelby Company was the official GI maker of P-51 can openers. US Shelby Company made them out durable stainless steel instead of the cheap knock-offs made of nickel plated steel from Rothco or Coghlan's.

They come in two sizes and they are available on the internet. Marines called them John Wayne's.

It is called a P-38. I opened many cans when out in the field in Grafenwoehr or Baumholder. I was stationerd in Bamberg GMBH. I wonder if anyone has ever heard of it ? Does anyone k ow what “the wall” in Nuremberg is ?
