Is this the Future of Boating? Navier 30 Electric Flying Boat

preview_player
Показать описание
This is the Navier 30 electric flying boat that behaves much like an airplane once it's out of the water. Two propellers on the aft foils are driven by Borg Warner electric motors. At cruising speed it gets the equivalent of 35 miles per gallon. What do you all think?

That's badass. Assuming it's got some range. Nothing like dead batteries in the middle of a storm.

Hydrofoils have been out for a very long time, simply making them electric isn't suddenly going to make them revolutionary.

I have a 50 Merc Big Foot on my 17.5 Crestliner. Gets good mileage and hauls a load. When gas gets real expensive I will go up lake at 5mph, sure takes longer but I have all day.

Also won’t worry about waves.

Cant wait for the videos of people trying these in three or four ft chop.

Same design from the electric powered surf boards almost. Neat.

One more thing, at least when it starts to burn because of high discharge demands and rate, it will already be in/on the water.

Requires a deep draught - and not to forget to retract foils when returning to shallow waters. !!

what happens when you hit something underwater? How deep do those fins go? 😮

You need a can of Red Bull on that contraption. Everyone knows that Red Bull gives you wings! 😅

Mighty RARE to have glass flat water where i go boating. Hows that gonna work when you have 2-6 ft wind waves and 2-8 ft swells accompanying???

I love it but we need to fix charging time

When it is smooth it is really smooth.
When it is rough it is very rough.

What size diesel engine do you have running the generator to produce the electricity to run that thing?

I have my 200 ton masters captain license. I believe that boat may just be a lot of fun, I would not mind finding out. Thanks for sharing this video

I like this idea. See how the transom rises out of the water with faster speeds.

Nice concept. How is it in rough seas?

mikes.

I hope they put a generator onboard to take over for the batteries and just use battery power for coming in to the docks and out. Electric motors great for primary propulsion as long as the power is being generated onboard and maintaining charge on the batteries. I like to have the batteries as backup and mooring power only.

In the sixties, there was this hydrofoil service between Manila and Corregidor island. The trip was smooth despite the waves. That's the feature of hydrofoils, it lifts the boat off the water and the waves of course! And now you got it running on electricity, must be awfully quiet and more relaxing!
