Worth a mention here - but you demonstrated exactly what FLARE mode is meant to do. It does not put in a pre-defined amount of elevator or nose down. It is dynamic. In this video you approached with 1 degree attitude at 50ft. This snapshot is taken, and then used to work out the nose down input at 30ft. It calculates this based on the delta between snapshot pitch, and a target of -2 degrees attitude, achieved over a time period of 8 seconds. The delta is 3 degrees. Over 8 seconds, that works out to 0.375 degrees/s of nose down input, which is nearly next to nothing. Airbus built it this way so that a flat approach does not create a situation where the nose down input is overpowering or causes the aircraft to land on its nose.

With a 6 degree snapshot pitch, it will be 1 degree/s, so stronger. Not sure how it works in the A330, but I am aware that the FLARE law is different there.

Not sure if the A330 behaves differently, but the A320 when you pull speed will not target the next characteristic speed. It will set the speed you were currently at. 👍

Pulling the speed on the departure at your timing will NOT set the target speed to 250. The selected speed target will be the speed at the moment you pulled the speed knob

Just wanted to shout out to say how much i appreciate your videos, they have been a great insight and help in my journey on msfs

As a retired Airbus pilot, I agree with your assessment. An update is needed. They really need to get the flare to touchdown right. After all, it is an Airbus.

The behave of the airplane was correct when you pulled the speed after the take off. The plane reduced the engines because it was on SPEED mode on FMA and not on THR CLB. To select the target speed first you’d need to turn the SPD knob and then pull it. And the plane went to SPEED mode because is the reverted mode when your FCU alt is at or below the acceleration alt. The feeling that I have is that the airplane have too much drag if compared to the real airplane… for example, when you descent are green dot speed with aprox 60t the plane will have a rate of descent of -1200ft/min and the fenix is -1600ft/min. Another thing in this video the plane should have a pitch of 5 degrees when approaching with flaps 3 and a 12kt of headwind shouldn’t have that increment of GS mini… btw great video!

Absolutely love your testflights and all that in-depth pilot knowledge. With this continuous love and care and attention to detail the Fenix Airbus will turn into a perfect Level-D simulator when it is finished.
The Fenix is so awesome! I remember a long long time ago (when more rural areas still used donkeys instead of cars) the last good Airbus I had was the BlackBox Airbus X-Treme Prologue for Flight Simulator X. So it´s been a while since there was a good Airbus sim But luckily now we have the Fenix and the Fenix is so much better and in constant development on it´s road to perfection. ;)

I think FSLABS has managed to create a superb flight model in how it rotates, flares, and touches the ground! Always enjoyed flying it on P3D..

I thought it was just me. The airplane keeps floating. Thanks for that

Thank you again for the information. It is a wonderfull addon. I hope the few faults will be dealt with.

In your opinion how does PMDG flare? I have tested the last update and for me, it still doesn’t feel right. It should tend to really fall into the runway after idle and if one felt inclined one could float for such a long time with the pitch at 5 degrees. As a CPL student, the only airplane that feels correct to me is Zibo on XP12. Fenix was alright, but these last updates have really made it messed up. What’s your opinion on the PMDG flare Emmanuel?

Is it worth the $? Getting a tiny bit tired of the pmdg 737 and could use a change for a bit

I cannot comment on a320 flare laws and such, as I only fly in the sim. But i can definitely notice a huge improvement with how it flares and lands with flaps full after updating to the newest build.

HI Emi, i think fair to say a long final was needed to stabilize the pitch and power . the speed presentation on PFD was wrong, so as the speed window should show the 250knt

Appreciate your detailed analysis, maybe you could evaluate the 787 landings as well because they seem really screwed up to me and i’m not a pilot.

Hey Emmanuel.

Noticed that the Flare mode didn’t annunciate on the FMA. Maybe it was a bug in the logic where the flare mode wasn’t active resulting in the lack of pitch down ?

Just curious, what is the purpose of starting the Chrono on takeoff?

Good assessment. Some incorrect behaviours but not too far off.

Pitch on final is still quite incorrect. In the A350 pitch is about 4-5 degrees with thrust at 51-53% Flap 3

Flaring also is quite off. Across all Airbus fleets when you pitch 2-2, 5 degrees pitch during flare it should kiss the runway beautifully and not start gaining altitude.

Trust me, Flightgear's legoboyvdlp A320 physics is almost what you are looking for. It rotates, flies manually, and flares really well. If you do it right like real life, it will neither float nor smash.

I feel like you are going a little too fast with your landing speed (150 knts targeted speed). IRL, I usually see A320 and A319 landing at roughly 140 knts give or take. (and that actually does the trick pretty well with the Fenix regarding AoA). 150 knts would be closer to an A321 landing speed imao.
