A fascinating history, difficult to preserve, I understand, after the Lisbon earthquake of 1755.

We are pretty certain, in modern South Africa that the storm which gave Dias difficulty around southern Africa occurred at present day Cape Town, which suffers regular storms of rain & heavy winds thanks to being near to the Southern Ocean. Hence, Dias gave the Cape Peninsula that initial name of Cape of Storms: a short-lived name, for the Cape of Good Hope is its very longstanding name.
