A new version of GhostBSD dropped on my doorstep (figuratively) and I was compelled to have a look by cosmic forces beyond my comprehension - or rather I couldn't wait to see what was new in this great FreeBSD based OS!
Is it Good. Bad or Indifferent? Let's have a look...

"You have to make sure you choose the right device using dd" --> Yes, I know ... Don't ask me why :)

Another thing. Please make more videos like this. GhostBSD is like Manjaro and EndeavourOS for Arch. If I could learn more tricks and work-arounds, I would pretty sure use it all the time and work my way to FreeBSD. Thanks.😊

Because in Norway the price of Windows 11 is around 250 $ I have to look for another ways to use the hardware. I tried to install FreeBSD but it is much to work after. GhostBSD looks good.

I'm not a fan of MATE, but I'm a fan of Robo and GhostBSD. I wish you both well.

(Edited to correct spacing...because I can)

Popsicle is great for burning an iso image to a thumbdrive. I installed the flatpak onto my Ubuntu OS. You can cut and paste the checksum into it and it also checks that, without the complications. It was created by the System 76 people.

I just watched your 'Why USE freeBSD' video again (3rd or 4th time) and see that I missunderstood the part about the drivers that I mentioned in my previous post here. In the Stan Hanks section of that video there is a sidebar (that you skipped over) which reveals that FreeBSD runs with all drivers loaded. That sounds just like Linux. So what ARE the advantages of GhostBSD over Mint? Mint has the command line too, and C/C++ is also there. You can modify it any way you like. The only problem I have ever seen with Mint in years of use is that my old Mint 19.3 is no longer supported. I have run into that on previous versions as well and had to reinstall. Would that (ending of support) not happen with FreeBSD?

The ibus for Asian input method (Chinese, Japanese, & Korean) doesn't work on LibreOffice. But, ibus is functioning on the other applications, like OpenOffice; the text editor; the note pad; etc. I tried to install OnlyOffice from the app center and it didn't show up. Also, I tried to make my wired ethernet work with it even thought my WIFI is working fine. However, there was no luck. More, GhostBSD detected the right printer name on my network but it couldn't find the right driver, though. Other than these, I think I could use GhostBSD as a daily driver. Cheers.

Matters of an old men. If you pump up the Letters over 14 (which I Like - because I forgott where my Glases are) the Software Station won't work. Nevertheless a great System - lovely top use.

I'm convinced that working desktop open source BSD is just a fantasy after wasting a day with FreeBSD and GhostBSD.

Non è ancora ai livelli di Devuan ma si difende abbastanza bene, chiaramente è ancora da perfezionare.

After install FreeBSD I found some problems to resolve. It's possible to setup but is not set. ThinkPad T470s, tap on touchpad, problem with finding wifi, setup WiFi on 5Ghz, sleep/resume, fish and default colors, localisation in CLI and WM, localisation Firefox, autochange sound outpuut headphone/speakers., laptop keys sound up/down, webcam. GhostBSD resolving these problems.

It is a typical MATE desktop, Control Center, etc, .. No disrespect to GhostBSD guys but don't see much of contribution in terms of appearance. However, certainly a good start. These things take a lot of time and efford. The only thing bothered me with BSD-based desktops is that too much restriction on privileges especially when accessing USB drives out of the box. That was the only reason why I gave up, did not want to change sys/devconf etc.
90% of users use GUI/worksations as solo. As technical people/developers, we should ease up privileges a bit rather than being paranoid in terms of security or force users the way we think or act..
I wish you would test external drive access to see if out-of-the-box for non-root user(s). Thanks for the video.

So, what is the advantage of GhostBSD over something like Mint? They look very similar to me, even to the terminal commands. In your 'Why Use FreeBSD' video you mentioned that FreeBSD does not include drivers for every device under the sun. But it would seem to me that GhostBSD would have to include them to create the 'live' distribution. Are they not transferred to the installed system? Do they only include what is needed for the machine it is being installed on?

Regards,
Gord

Nice review.
How to enable wifi on GhostBSD ?
It would be awesome to explain this process on a new video, if it's possible.

I'm using Ghost since june 2023 for my jobs, and i'm very satisfied of that. Except for that suspension mode. When i wake up the system, the monitor don't show nothing. So i have to shutdown the system every time.

Thanks, great overview.
Are you personally using GhostBSD or your one setup with FreeBSD?
