This is a great trick I figured out for cutting perfect fitting splines for miter joints or for blade width shims for cutting joinery on the table saw when you need to offset by exactly a blades width.

(Please keep in mind that I do not own and have not used the less expensive blades. But these are Flat Tooth Grind ripping blades and at a much lower cost. It's good to have options!)

Just used this for my first splined box and it worked perfectly. What helped was adding a feather board to keep the two pieces together.

I have watched dozens of woodworking videos through the years to help me solve problems. Inspire Woodcraft is the best. Simple, efficient, super smart solutions, and presented without the fluff that takes away from the content. Thank you Jodee for sharing your talent!

I've tried a bunch of methods with disappointing results. This is so simple and elegant. You did it again!

Hey! I love the way you present material. You have a calm, reassuring and straight-forward approach that makes it easier to understand what you're demonstrating. Thank you for your great videos. I'm going to use this technique to make some spline shims later today. You helped me more than you know! Thanks again.

Of course I only bother searching for this AFTER spending all of the time on longer methods... Thank you so much!

You were right to redo the video, it is just what I was looking for to cut long single blade with splines. Thanks.

That's an elegant solution to a problem that can see some of us (looks in mirror) occasionally skip splining a mitre. Thank you for sharing it with us all.

I might go and batch out some splines, and stick 'em in a pencil holder, come to think of it.

I have to say, the way you came up with this process was brilliant! After watching, it’s an, “Ah ha” moment and so logical. But I’d have not come up this this! Thanks. I’ll keep this one I’m my plans!

You clever man, thank you so much. I signed myself up for a 17ct floating box bookshelf project and could not bear the thought of running 2 passes per mitered edge just to put splines in. You saved my sanity, my project, and probably my marriage. Thanks man.

So obvious, yet so doggoned simple. Never occurred to me to do it this way. Made me feel like I ought to be sitting in a corner with a dunce cap on. Sometimes the simplest most obvious solutions you just never think of. What's that saying - "cant see the forest for the trees?" This will come in crazy handy! Thanks for this tip!

Saw this video before, but will be using it today so had to re-watch it to make sure it really is as simple as you show it. Just a brilliant solution to a vexing problem. One of those "how did I not think of this" tips that are pure genius. I think back on all the times over the years that I pulled my hair out getting the correct width and kicking myself for missing such a simple but wonderful solution.

I tried this method but with disappointing results. The method makes perfect sense, of course the resulting spline must be the same thickness as the blade. I was not using a flat bottom blade but a 10” 24T DeWalt blade. I was cutting splines from pine. My splines were too thin. It doesn’t seem that these variables would account for my results being different. What say you?

This is a straightforward solution to a challenging problem. Thanks.
