I just bought a vintage cross slide vise this morning for $20 at a yard sale. This ratchet hack looks like it might be helpful. Thanks.

How do you stop the chuck from falling or flying off? Honestly, bearings are no big deal. Do a job, replace the bearings. About what... around $10? Expendable material. But a wild chuck can mess up your part or even possibly injure the operator.

With this information I can sabotage the American factory lines. Thank you, Comrade.

I'm pretty sure that most everybody out there knows that you can't use a drill press to Mill if the Chuck doesn't fall out on you you're going to wear your press bearings out in little to no time at all it's just not made to do sideways motion up and down motion is all it will hold up to doing

Wait? but you have a locking depth gauge that I can see? there’s two nuts on there already, you just need put them on the bottom of the stop tab instead of the top.

In drill press having depth stop bar preventing to go downwards this can be done by swapping the nuts in the bottom side of the bar preventing the quill to move upwards.But i think so, since i dont have one.

Good idea. But using the drill chuck as end mill holder is really a bad idea because it is not made for that, it won't hold your end mill securely.

Great tip! Can you tell me more about the threaded rod which prevents the ratchet handle moving? Also, if you don't already have one, please see this gent's video, showing how to install a substitute drawbar on a tapered collet chuck for safe, light milling;
