We FINALLY moved in!! Farmhouse rewiring is complete!

I can't believe the house is rewired and DONE. We moved in this week and are so so excited! Chris and I even got a new comfy mattress!

Speaking from experience, wash ALL your walls and trim work with TSP prior to painting and or wallpapering. Otherwise the tar from the cigarette smoke residue will literally ooze through your paint and wallpaper.
Also, maybe consider drywall tape on those seams before you mud and sand, you’ll get a cleaner, smoother look.

I’m so excited to follow along on this journey with you! I have always loved old farmhouses and I wish I would have bought one about 20 years ago. I’m 54 now so I’m not up to the task of getting one updated or maintained at this point. I know from friends that have one what a job it can be. Thankfully I can enjoy them through people like you that are willing to share the experience with others. I don’t blame you for doing the bedroom first. Having that one room that is done and you can go destress in is so important!

You'll need to use a special paint for smoke stains, like Kilz, so they don't bleed through.

Wow, I bet y’all are so excited. I saw your question about dip and strip places in SC. I’m in Gilbert, outside Lexington. I couldn’t find any place that does that. My suggestion would be to just take it a door at a time. Take it off it’s hinges, strip the all hardware off of it and get you some stripper and go to town with it. They have some good products that melt layers of old paint off. Do your research and watch some YouTube videos. It will take some time, but you can do it. It would be a fun project you can do yourself and be proud to show off. ❤️😊

What a beautiful house and family!! I cant remember if it was Joanna Gaines or the girl on Home Town, but one showed how in those older homes, they often would paint the ceiling on the front porch a medium to Dark Blue. It was beautiful. I can't remember why, but there was some reason. Sorry, my brain is old. LOL. 🤯

You'll probably need to clean the smoke/nicotine stains before painting, it'll bleed through really easily, even stuff like Kilz doesn't really get it by itself.

Oh my goodness, we have the same bathtub in our 100 year old house! At first I thought it was weird, but now I love it-- the flat edge is comfortable to sit on. You will appreciate that when bathing kids or cleaning. The only thing I don't like is ours has the drain in the middle. :/
