why stock exchange is not providing stocks to us directly? why can't stock exchange act as a middleman between a buyer and a seller? why stock exchanges are not allowing us to buy stocks directly without a broker?

Great videos. Im learning to start investing in stocks. Especially right now due to the pandemic I see a lot of stock is down and Im confident it will go up in the future. The video doesn't say how brokers work. It only describes a beginner's fantasy how brokers could work. For example, why brokers need to have twice as much capital as the size of your trade just to be able to execute the trade?
