Nature Photography - Goosander (Common Merganser) - UK Wildlife (4K)

A morning by the river and a Goosander turns up. A less common Waterfowl where I live and great to see something different.

Also known as the Common Merganser, the Goosander is a striking waterfowl with a long hooked beak.

This Goosander crept up behind me while I wasn't looking.

Always good to see a goosander. Never had them as close at water level but lucky enough to have them here in winter in Esssx at Abberton Reservoir. Great video

You was very fortunate on that day Keith, been after some decent close up Goosander images for a few years now without success just seems to be a very nervous species - remember that encounter you may not get that close again ! - Lovely detail in the stills. 👍

Morning Keith, thats a great find, I've only seen one a long time ago in Rickmansworth I just parked the car by a river and there it was rushed to get the camera out of the boot and just time for a quick picture before it swam off down the river. Thanks for sharing.👍

Love shots Keith - stunning bird
We have had around six pairs here for the last couple of years, before that nothing, maybe a pair on the river occasionally.
I think the females are beautiful too with the bad hair day look, although it’s the contrasting colours of the males that are so so striking!!
Looked a good day out - cold but bright. - you probably made the best of it, forecast for the next few days is pretty awful. Have a great rest of the weekend mate 👍👍👍👍

stunning bird even thou I prefer the female to the male myself, bit more going on with her, nice long neck feathers which can play nicely with back light! =) Well done mate!

Lovely shots Keith and nice and close, there have been 8 on a local pit near me but very skittish despite laying under a ghillie blanket. Of all places Abington park lake usually hosts a few over winter but very busy!!👍

Lovely images. In winter there's loads where I live but unfortunately I don't have a long enough lens for my DSLR to get decent shots of them as they always stay far from the lakes edge, lol.
