I love this.

My house burned down a couple of weeks ago. It was just over 100 years old, and the rebuild needs to be up to code.
It's in a city lot, and the city is planning for energy-sustainable population growth, and the idea of a garden on the roof is perfect.

I learned this summer that some of the first nations people here in Alaska would traditionally put birch bark down on the roof poles and then cover with the dirt. I don't know what the life expectancy was for the bark underlayment but I do know that it is somewhat resistant to rot. It is much more resistant that the birch wood. Thanks for showing how you did your roof.

This is Tony : An American in the Philippines. Thank you for the basic Green Roof Idea. I am building a small cabin in the mountains of Leyte and want to use some of your building Technics. Thanks again. I've liked your exploring life as a primitive adventurer. Be well and free.

Good and simple idea to use what is in the environment. A question about the air coming between the logs, isn't it going Inside the cabin too?

I am planning to build a small cordwood home with a living green roof. I like the idea of having a simple natural shelter, made from materials gathered from the land and recycled from used goods. Take care Billy. Cheers!

The perfect place for planting a non-root vegetable garden, herb garden, wild (medicinal) weeds, domestic and wild flowers ... you have your food and medicine garden away from slugs, snails, and all the native bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds come and pollinate the flowers. The greenery keeps the soil moist, but not wet ... and you also have a forest fire proof roof.

How much rain do you get in your area? In FL we will get about 46” a year and I am concerned that a flat green roof will still flood. Can this be done at a decline angle to let the rain drain?
