Hype and expectations for Penn State's 2023 season are through the roof, as the Nittany Lions seek to take the next step and reach the CFP after posting an 11-win campaign capped with a Rose Bowl victory. The main reason for such optimism? Sophomore quarterback Drew Allar.

As Coach Codutti shows us, the 5-star true freshman matured right before our eyes last year in backup duty. Codutti explains the god-given traits that make Allar great, the elements of his game that caught us by surprise, and the fixable aspects that need correcting if Penn State hopes to contend for a national championship next season.

NEW FTB FILM STUDY VIDS will appear regularly throughout Spring Practice and the offseason.

The throw to Warren (drop) vs. Purdue was a thing of beauty. NFL caliber throw into a tight window.

I have a feeling the Allar to Liam connection is going to be fruitful this fall. A bigger athletic slot guy is what we've been missing and it appears there's a connection already in place.

I am super excited for the fall!!! I am going to keep telling everyone, we are going to be very good, I am not scared of anyone on the schedule!!! Ohio State on the road, will show how good we are, but Michigan in Happy Valley in November, I am not worried, literally!!!! WE ARE

Love the videos every time. I’m glad you pointed out the “sailing”. Even in his twitter videos with his personal coach you can see him drilling footwork and rotation. But when he misses it always just a bit high.

I also sat just above the PSU bench on the 35 yard line @ Purdue. I lost my freaking mind.

I think with a spring and summer camp, we are going to be awful impressed by Drew and look out big WE ARE

Awesome, awesome stuff. A few thoughts. First, I 100 percent would have thrown an INT on that Michigan play. Kid clearly has serious smarts. Second, not necessarily surprising that his under-center footwork (particularly on PA) isn't great -- I don't know that he ran anything but gun in HS, right? That strikes me as a very easy fix. Third, do we think there is any chance that he picks up a couple of steps in the off-season? First full year in S/T, and I just have a feeling he is going to be leaner and quicker. Probably never as fast as Cliff, but he is also an absolute load. Finally, do we think that the sailing of the ball (and that is most of his misses, IIRC) are fixed with footwork? I am so scarred by Hack's poor accuracy that I just am hoping it is a matter of working at it.

The crappy thing is, like you said his inconsistent footwork can be worked on, but in the blue-white game and in the open practice he had the same issues. Hoping he was able to keep working on that.

I would wait before I say accuracy is a strength. Hopefully it is. In a small sample size he made some great throws and some wild throws way off target, and many simple short throws like a 5-10 yd out.

Great breakdown as always loved the video. So we see he has the potential to be an elite qb physically but when you listen to reports saying he is extremely quiet does that concern you at all? That's a big change in leadership style compared to Sean Clifford who was fiery and passionate. I know everyone leads in different ways but just a question to throw out there.

Great stuff however I believe he sailed that last pass on purpose otherwise it is a pick 6 for Indiana!

Has Dan Marino like quick release time.

It’s a shame that we will only have Drew for 3 years. Unfortunately with his type of talent the NFL will come knocking early.

If Drew blows up, we go to the Playoffs!

First, thanks coach. Always appreciate the insight.

They should have played Allar more. They knew they couldn't beat Michigan or OSU with the QB they had last year, they should have taken the beatings last year so PSU could be in a much better situation with the QB. Now the learning curve will be this year with all that implies.
