Woke is a positive term, form of "wake, " or "awaken, " to mean "to be aware of" or possess intelligence, common sense, or sense of logic. Literally to be "not asleep" not lacking intelligence.

Woke is a term that goes back to 1920s Britain.
And chasing after terms the right-wings will pervert or twist to imply negative sub-contexts is a losing game. They'll do it with anything. They're unimaginative and often reduce things down to turning terms that they oppose into vague negative concepts that they can frown at and use as derogatory words (liberal, socialist, commie, CRT) even when they themselves couldn't define or explain those words if their lives depended on it. Ir's the equivalent of name-calling for them, like saying doody-head or something.

This video is so helpful! Being a white Alabamian democrat w 70yo+ democratic parents, this is the best explanation I have ever came across! No doubt! My parents don’t really watch much cable news or YouTube. They’re getting AL senate ad mailers that say ‘Mo is too woke’ to be a Senator. My parents asked me what exactly that term means. I said, “All it really means is to be aware of reality and that minori…”. Like many times before, I got a confused look from them. Lol. I showed them this video and they understood and were disheartened by the way it’s phrased on the ads. When Mark McMilley was asked about CRT by Gaetz, I think about what he said about wanting to learn more about it. I truly admire that! I watched this video when it first came out but after seeing how my parents reacted, I felt the need to share this now. Thank you for this!!!
