LOVED LOVED LOVED Ilullisat. Truely magical. A must visit for photographers as the iceburgs are RIDICULOUS! There's a tiny settlement about 20 miles north that has the most remote restaurant I've ever been to and serves AMAZING halibut caught locally. Definitely worth visiting. Thanks for your fun video!

Nuuk, i had 3 fishing seasons there, fishing Turbot, we would leave Newfoundland Canada, around may or june & would take us 5 or 6 days of steaming, depended on the ice, Nuuk is where we would come to port to unload every 10 to 12 days, then around sept or early oct we would return to newfoundland, have to say the locals are very friendly, i use to look foward going there each year, The American Air force had an radar station base there in the 40s during the 2nd world war, i remember couple of times when we ported there would be U.S Navy ships docked there, & i would go over have a chat with the boys & they would always give me a couple of cartens of Winston cigs that was a treat lol

A very accurate presentation. Thank you. Well done. Your pronunciation of Greenlandic names and places is a bit messed up, but quite understandable as Greenlandic contains sounds not found in the English language.
The picture of the old women in indigenous clothing is from the Canadian Arctic, not Greenland. People of Greenland are not different tribes. And since 1721 when Hans Egede came to Greenland and colonization started, there has been a continuous stream of intermarriages happening between Greenlanders and Danes. A majority of the population today is of mixed heritage, though many clearly identify as just Greenlanders.
All the larger cities in Greenland, and some smaller ones, have a short runway especially for aircraft that has the capacity to land on these short airstrips.
The main air hub for years has been Kangerlussuaq (the big fiord) established by the American military during WW II under the name Bluie West 8, later renamed Sonder Strom Airbase.
In the mid-1950s, a civilian section was opened up to assist as a fueling station for transatlantic aircraft going from the US to Europe. It also became the major air hub for people in Greenland traveling to and from Denmark, as it was only one of three places where the big jets can land in Greenland.
The Americans abandoned the airbase in 1995, and it is officially today a settlement of Sisimiut. Currently two major new airports are under construction in Nuuk and in Ilulissat, which will allow for jet service directly to these cities from abroad. The new runway in Nuuk is scheduled for full jet service in November 2024.
Construction in Ilulissat has fallen a bit behind schedule but the airport is supposed to open sometime in 2025.
These new airports are expected to revolutionize air travel to, from and within Greenland.
