Imploding Can Experiment (Chemistry)

Ocean Gate Submarine Update: For all those wondering about implosion of the submarine. It would likey have been faster and even more extreme than the can in the video, the pressure outside the sub pushing inward was about 400 times that inside the sub pushing out, with the can in the video it is likley just about 5-10 times the pressure pushing inward than pushing outward.

This video shows you how to implode an aluminum can using water and atmospheric pressure. Filling the can with steam and then exposing that steam to cold water causes it to condense back into water leaving no gas particles on the inside of the can to exert pressure outward. The air around the can, however, still contains many particles exerting a force inward which then crushes the can.

Try this experiment at home or as a science fair project!

▶️ How to do the imploding can experiment:
Step 1: Start by filling the baking dish ½ full of ice, and then add water until it's completely full.

Step 2: Add about 1 tblsp of the water to an aluminum can.

Step 3: Place the can on a hot plate.

Step 4: Turn the hot plate on high and wait for steam to be pouring out the top. At this point, your can is ready to be imploded.

Step 5: Remove the can from the hot plate using tongs, and then in one motion, pour out the rest of the fluid and submerge the top of the can in the ice water.

▶️ How the air pressure can crushing experiment works:
The can implodes because, as the steam condenses back into the water, there are no gas molecules on the inside of the can pushing outward against the atmospheric pressure. This allows the atmospheric pressure to crush the can.

Who else came here to see what implosion looked like because of that missing submarine?

Seven years later an this dude is going to get a nice handful of change from everybody watching his video😅

let me guess, everybody watching this are here to see what it looks like for a submarine to implode 🤣😭

And this ladies and gents is how The Ocean Gate Titan imploded on it's self. RIP men <3

That's precisely how subs implode. It's not a slow squeak like they show in the movies. You won't even have time to process what happened.

Great video. Nicely filmed and edited. Good use of effects. Well done.

Only here to see what the submarine would have been like

As of Sunday, June 25th most of the comments 80% to be exact were posted within the past week. It's insane what Titan did to people's minds.

It's amazing how simple this is. You didn't even need a Logitec Control.

Meanwhile billionaires will pay quarter of a million just to experience this while I can do it for a dollar

Now I know what to do with the hundreds of cans I've not bothered to recycle yet... XD This is going to be fun.

Who else came here for a visual idea of an example of a implosion

Is this basically what happened to the OceanGate sub? Crushed inward?

Can you do it underwater? Like the submarine
