Pagani Design GMT - is it as good as it seems?

I have reviewed a few Submariner homages, but I’ve never handled a Pagani before. At long last, I have one in my hands. I’ve always wondered if they’re actually any good, as they pack a massive punch for an incredible price.

So then, let’s take a look. Are they really that good? Let’s find out.

I have had one of these for 5 months now (feels like I have had it longer, which is a good thing!). First of all, I loved your review. I am just adding more context since, like you said, the QA on these can be hit or miss.

From my experience, the bezel doesn't have any wobble in it, though I don't have experience with many expensive watches. I know the bezels were improved about 6 months ago so it is possible you got an older one. The bezel is 120 click which I think is superior to the bezel on the 24 click bezel on the Rolex since it allows you to use the bezel for timing like the Submariner or tracking time zones like the GMT Master.

I actually didn't even bother with the lume when I first got it since I had read so many times that it was terrible. However, I have noticed in the last couple months that I can read it just fine at night after wearing it all day. This is without doing anything special to charge it and after sitting at my desk job all day. It may be kind of faint, but I have grown to trust that I can read it in my bleary eyed stupor when I wake up in the middle of the night.

The movement in my watch is usually between 5-9 seconds slow every day when wearing it, but 4 seconds fast when face up on my desk. All of those times are per day. I have stopped checking the time very often and grown to trust that it will be within a minute or so during the week. (The date was a day behind this morning since we just had a 30 day month and the watch has 31 days on the day wheel, but that is my fault and a problem that even a Rolex GMT Master II would have had.)

I hate the cyclops. Again, I don't have a lot of experience with genuine Rolex watches with a cyclops, but this one makes the minutes from 13 to 17 just about useless. I haven't gotten up the courage to remove it yet, but I am tempted.

Since I bought this watch in June it has been my daily driver, my favorite watch. It has replaced my Casio and Timex watches. I am rarely without this watch and I am looking at other Pagani Design watches for my next purchase.

I bought a couple Paganis and a Bliger off of Ali Express, thinking it would be a good way to test a few styles and sizes before “investing” in a Rolex. These homage watches are effing amazing for their price point. I’ll probably keep my year 2000 Omega Seamaster and my 2020 Grand Seiko as my “best watches”, and wear these when I crave a change. Three watches from Ali Express cost me $250 US and probably saved me $15 to $20 thousand by killing the urge to upgrade my collection.

I used to hate homage watches. However, in recent years, I have changed my opinions of them, especially on Pagani Design. Its kind of like a slap on the face and a wake up call for myself on the real values of Rolex watches. If a Chinese company can make such good quality watches with sapphire and ceramic bezel at such a low price, you will know how overpriced it is for genuine Rolex. I think Pagani is on a mission here. 👍👍👍

The watch that changed my whole outlook on the industry.

Love my Pagani Design. I am pretty sure my GMT was less than $150. Tremendous bang for the buck and made me reevaluate the 'logic' of spending over $500 or $600 on a watch. If pure accuracy is the goal, then a phone or $100 quartz movement is the answer. As far as 'craftsmanship', I think people would be surprised to see the quantity of cheap plastic components inside of their multi thousand dollar watches.

Have also noticed that almost universally, my least expensive watches are the most difficult to scratch, whether that be the case or bracelet. Have a 15 year old Timex quartz that was an 18 hour/day about 5 years. Sat in my dusty garage for 4 years, and I am confident that if I replace the battery, will continue to run like a German sewing machine.

It took me far too long to realize that the watches I wear most often and that spark the most joy for me, are overwhelmingly my least expensive. Not to type that I would, "never" buy another 'expensive' watch, but it would have to be something that REALLY knocked my socks off and I don't want to pay through the nose simply because of a company's marketing budget and choice of 'brand ambassador'.

I picked this watch up a few weeks ago and I am blown away at how good it is for the price. I have a Rolex SD 43 that I love and can tell the difference in quality. I can't get a Batman from an OD and I would never pay the Grey Market prices. This is truly amazing. $100 instead of paying $25K. Also, is something were to happen to this watch I would not be upset.

Have had my Pagani Design "Daytona" for 2 years now. Absolutely pleased with the performance. The bezel and case is rugged and its waterproof in a marine environment. It has kept quite accurate varying 3 sections fast in a month or so by GPS time. Have had much more expensive watches that were nowhere as dependable as this watch.

Incredible watches...for the price!
The second part of that is the real important part

It does provide best possible quality for a watch at this price level. When the original design is costing so much, homage does make every sense. A similar move in phone product when iPhone is expensive, Xiaomi is god-sent.

I have 3 Paganis and they definitely are conversation starters. I'm an introvert and am not particularly good at networking, but I've made some acquaintances thanks to my Chinese homage watches.

Nice straight up video, but man! Can you do something about your intro music level being WAY louder than your main video dialogue please. 😳

They’re really good & I think they’re getting better. Now they’re starting to do a lot of Seiko homages. Nobody can see from a distance what watch it is. The Pagani GTM uses a poor man’s 21j GMT movement. Cronos & San Martin uses a proper 28800bph « caller” GMT. But you still need to buy a Hamilton or Mido if you want an affordable traveler’s GMT.

The Pagani Design uses a 120 click unidirectional ceramic “Batman” or aluminium “Pepsi » bezel. Cronos & San Martin uses a 24 click bidirectional Ceramic bezel on both models.

If you don’t like the yachtmaster oysters bracelet. Cronos & San Martin uses the jubilee bracelet, but Cronos has a non homage deployment clasp. The lume is also much better on the San Martin & Cronos models.

At the end of the day, it all comes down to curiosity & satisfaction. Is it interesting enough & is it satisfying enough?

Imagine getting your hand chopped off in a mugging and the thief gets so pissed that it's not a Rolex lol.

I've had my Coke version GMT for almost a year. ZERO problems. Top three favorite watches. I own Rolex and Omegas and this is the one I sleep with and swim with and I did remove the bracelet (the buckle had sharp edges) and I went for silicone red strap. ZERO PLAY with the bezel, perfect alignment on bezel and on cyclops, and NO noisy rotor. I got lucky I guess. I'm ordering your batman one because that comes with the ceramic bezel while the coke version is only in aluminium (where there is red, there is no ceramic).

Ive owed two different Rolex's in my life (GMTII & President) neither kept good time at all; I do love the look of their watches though. I own an "all gold & white face" Daytona Style one from Invicta and honestly no one has ever said anything to me except.."nice watch", even though at my age I won't wear a gold watch anymore. I got on the smartwatch train along with everyone else, purchased a Garmin Fenix 6x pro and a AWU. And for exercise they can't be beat, . Other than that they are bothersome with all of the notifications and alerts. I just want a nice looking watch now that I'm much older; and only walk for exercise now. (My triathlon days are far behind me with this RA.)
I just ordered this exact watch & color-way so I'll have to report back on how it fits my needs after receiving it.
I was glad that you took the time to post a review,
Thank you sir.
Peace & Blessings
Parker

I used to hate on Paganis but they sometimes come up with homages that are different enough to get my attention. Their quality has improved over the years. If they offered this watch with a unique color variant and/or bezel color, I would seriously consider getting one and I don't even need a GMT watch.

Watches like this are a real god send imo, because sometimes you can't wear the "real deal" out in my area what with the rising crime rates and all :(

Homage watches are like a bit of "desire therapy".

They are 'legally' allowed to follow an original design, but of course, with a noticeable difference. It still allows one to enjoy what cannot be easily afforded or acquired, especially of the homage watch is of good quality.

I had sooo long desired a Paul Newman Dial watch and I knew how impossible getting that grail would be. Then, someone was selling a Pagani Design version of it (as if the opportunity fell out of the sky for me from God) ... and I bought it (had to pay in full, but negotiated with partial payments).

I somehow feel.. "satisfied" with it and that hunger in my heart for that grail has ceased. Others may disagree, but then.... who cares? Im happy 😊

Brands like Pagani and others make good stuff.I have a 114060 and it’s not remarkably different from my Phoibos “homage”.It probably costs Rolex 100.00 to make the Sub, it’s not like each watch is made by hand by some guy wearing a vest and glasses, shaping each gem. What they charge and how they control the flow of their watches is absurd.30-40k for a used Batman is ridiculous.A sax o mat is 1/2 that.A Bathyscaphe is 1/4.
