Zechariah 6: 1 – 15 The Eighth Vision and the Coming Messiah

This morning we come to our eighth and final vision. The previous visions now take shape, working in pairs which a chiastic pattern ABCDDCBA for instance,
The first and the eighth vision both concern four horseman riding to protect Israel from its enemies.
The second and the seventh vision both explain how Israel came to be exiled, these are visions of the blacksmiths and the woman in a basket who is taken away by two angels.
The third and sixth vision are promises that the nation will be rebuilt, one vision concerns a man measuring the city, another the flying scroll which sends a warning for Jerusalem to purify themselves.
The fourth and fifth visions foretell the crowing of Joshua and Zerubbabel which serve as a type of the coming Messiah who would be both Priest and King.
