Pressure testing is what is missing in a lot of martial arts. Good to see Aikido addressing that. This competition could use some tweaks but a good start.

This is not at all how Steven Segal makes Aikido look. Where's the move where dude flips through the air just by touching him with two fingers?

This is as effective as thumb wrestling

It amazes me how all the BJJ and MMA fanboys talk about how aikido can’t work because it doesn’t have sparring but then when it does actually sparr everyone says it doesn’t work. Anyway the style was created by aikido master and judo master Kenji Tomik who made it full contact. It’s frankly just as good as BJJ(aka Basically just judo).

Any pressure testing is better than none.

Yeah it does show how useless these beautiful Aikido moves are when they are resisted. It's just two guys struggling to twist each others arms.

This is competitive Shodokan Aikido, as founded by Kenji Tomiki, student of O'Sensei.

Needless to say, it doesn't exactly fulfil O'Sensei's vision for Aikido.

I have no idea what is going on here.
Isn't aikido opposed to competitions?

Ways to actually try to make a competition for aikido, first no weapons, 2 points for grabbing the opponents wrists or collar 2 points if you can hold them in the positions for 3 seconds 5 points for any throw or maybe variety of points depending on throw difficulty wristlock submissions win you the match also something similar can be done to combat jiujitsu, combat aikido where straight palm strikes to the face are allowed this will give opportunity for the aikikai to redirect the opponent. also redirected counters involving the clothesline like strikes are allowed for combat aikido somebody make it happen lol

If this is made the norm in Aikido I think it would be a pretty popular martial art. The technique is impressive and useful in standup grappling.

My mind on this: Aikido comes from some martial arts that were designed for self defence. As we know, self defence is pretty different from combative sports. People expect to see self defence in a sport match (which is wrong lol). Of course the sport aspect of Aikido would look like this.
Also, when 2 Aikidoists fight each other....is very hard to apply an Aikido tehnique on them because they KNOW what are you going to try on them.
Still, this kind of contact between Aikidoist is VERY GOOD, because you will get acustomed with the semi-contact, or full contact(if you want so). Most of the Aikido tehniques won't work against strong guys without ATEMI, a distraction, a punch in the ribs, in the chest, in the chin, etc. So don't judge a martial art that was designed for something else than sport. They are trying their best.

This isn’t aikido. I didn’t see one choreographed tumble and neither of them cartwheeled through the air after being touched.

This just looked like a struggle between two blokes unwilling to throw a punch.

So if he takes the stick from his hand he wins the round? I have no idea what's going on.
