we know that subset of a countable set is countable. Suppose f is a function with domain A and
co domain B.
By a property of one or onto functions,
If f is one one the A is subset of B and if f is onto the B is subset of A.
clearly when f is one one with A = S and B = N the S is subset of N and hence S is countable.
If f is onto with A = N and B = S the
again S is subset of N and hence S is again
so options 1 and 4 are correct and 2 and 3 are in general incorrect

I don't think that one should specifically study cases for countable and uncountable sets. We just need to know that the cardinality of uncountable set is greater than countable set and the following: If there exist an injection from A to B, then |A| ≤ |B|, and if there exist a surjection from A to B, then |A| ≥ |B|.
