Here's your chance to eye witness this rare astronomical event before it vanishes for 400 years. A newly discovered comet named Nishimura will have its closest approach to us as it will fly by the earth this week. Japanese space photographer Hideo Nishimura first observed the Comet Nishimura in early August as he was taking images of the night sky. To your surprise, this comet is already inside our solar system and is making an orbit around the sun. The comet will make its closest approach to Earth on Tuesday, getting within 78 million miles, which means it’s potentially visible over the next five days. Nishimura completes its one orbit around the sun in around 440 years, so the last time it was closest to earth was around year 1590, way before the invention of telescopes.
