Lyrics:

Hey
How's your life?
Yeah, mine's alright
Oh, I'm doing fine
(It's just life, honey)

Well, hey
I'm having a bad day
So tell me it's okay
Sometimes it's just that way

My mama said 'The grass is always greener where you water it
Go and fill your diet up with greens, and reds, and oranges
Coffee goes cold, so you better drink all of it
Go and live your life, cause you know you were born for it'

You are not an image or a product or commodity
You aren't worth more because you like to eat broccoli
You're made up of your thoughts, habits, hopes, fears
And honestly, you're floating through space on a rock
Ain't that crazy?

So, go and live your life
What could go wrong?

Hey
So I fell on my face when I was walking through town earlier today
But then I stayed down, laying on the ground
Cause everyone looks so happy when they're upside-down
And, it got me wondering, what is this all about
We're just kids in the playground when the sun goes out, but
Am I instructions, what am I here to do
An existential crisis at twenty-two

My mama said 'The grass is always greener where you wanna be
You got to learn to love the ground you're standing on already
And coffee goes cold, but be grateful that there's any
Go and live your life, cause you've always been ready'

You are not an image or a product or commodity
You aren't worth more because you like to eat broccoli
You're made up of your thoughts, habits, hopes, fears
And honestly, you're floating through space on a rock
Ain't that crazy?

Ohh the grass will surely be greener
But why do we even need that goal?
For purple, pink, or even turquoise
Yellow, you're a dreamer

Oh, I remember, what my mama said
She knew just what I needed
She said 'The grass is always greener where you water it
Go and fill your diet up with greens, and reds, and oranges
Coffee goes cold, that's why you better drink all of it, honey
Go drink it up'
Cause, honey

You ain't an an image or a product or commodity
You aren't worth more because you like to eat broccoli
You're made up of your thoughts, habits, hopes, fears
And honestly, you're floating through space on a rock
Ain't that crazy?

(The grass is greener where you wanna be)
(It's just life, honey)
(The grass is greener where you wanna be)
(I love you, mama)
(It's just life, honey)

(If these are right I wrote them out myself. If they’re wrong I got them from google it’s their fault.)

For some reason this song always reminds me that we've become human through so many years of evolution and our main goal should always be to be happy because there's so much to be happy about (not to get grades, get a job or whatever). Always an important reminder because it's pretty easy to forget in this fast paced world, so thank you.

Just chattin' with friends on discord reminiscing about when we used to be in bands and actually play instruments, and someone asked what my favorite song of all time was, which as many know is not a question you should ask. Music is so expansive, and at this point almost ancient, just such a core part of what makes humanity what it is, and as a 35 year old that grew up with my own music and the music of my parents and ultimately settled for the music of my grandparents for some reason other than I just can't get enough of Sam Cooke, I took no hesitation on admitting my favorite song is this little ditty called Green Grass by Ellie Dixon. "I know you haven't heard of her" I says, and I, (unfortunately, ) was correct in saying so. But they immediately come to this page to listen to it and quickly agree that this is an incredibly relatable song. We proceed to have a discussion about what makes music music, and what makes good music good music, and there's just something about this song that gets everything right. It knows what it's doing. It has a character, a style, a story, it's real, and it's from a real person before that person becomes something more than a person. I don't know why I'm writing this, but I also don't know why this song isn't a main stay on FM radio and doesn't play at least once a day on my drive to work. There's a lot about the world right now that makes me feel small and unsure about a lot of things, and this is yet another example of something just not right. I said it before, I'm 35. I've been to 18 concerts with a RANGE from Neil Young to KISS to Flogging Molly to BABYMETAL, all sorts of things. Most of my favorites are dead, and many other aren't crowds I'd exactly fit into. I listen to everything, I love rock opera, I love Slipknot, I love Run the Jewels, I was a fan of The Spice Girls and Hanson era, but Green Grass by Ellie Dixon is just in this bubble. I can't explain it to anyone, and when I do I feel like I'm making up answers, but it is my favorite song without a seconds thought and will remain so until someone cracks this code. I don't know what you did, Ellie, but I've been listening to this song for years and it needs to get out. You need to be heard. You're just a lass, like us, who goes through things, with a life and a family, who has feelings that are relatable. Again, I don't know why I'm writing this, I guess it's just time for me to do so. The internet is full of words and opinions, so here's mine.
