Dallas Cowboys QB Danny White may have been the epitome of a perfect teammate. In a 1988 NFL game against the Atlanta Falcons, even though White was on the bench, as Tom Landry started Steve Pelluer, White may have been the MVP of the game without playing a single snap. This is the story behind White's incredible team-first spirit, and the moment that might exemplify his storied career

Danny White never got the recognition he deserved. Loved him as a player and a coach with the AFL with Arizona and Utah . Met him when he was coaching Utah and he was the nicest guy.

My all time favorite player. Loved watching him play when I was a kid.

Very underrated QB. 3 consecutive NFC Championship appearances despite the pressure of following Roger Staubach. He did his job. His teammates didn't always do theirs.

In high school, Steve Pelleuer's teammates included former Falcons/Seahawks coach Jim Mora and Queensryche guitarist Michael Wilton.

Danny White really was never appreciated by the Cowboys, players or fans after being Staubach's successor. He had to fight off Gary Hogeboom even after He took the Cowboys to three consecutive NFC Championship games.

My best memory of Danny White was our victory over the Falcons in the divisional round of the 1980 playoffs. The long pass to Drew Pearson was the nail in the coffin for the Falcons in a FURIOUS come from behind victory.

Great story about a really good player. Danny White was one of those players that if he could have just gotten 3 more wins, would have been to the Super Bowl 3x and probably in conversation for the HOF. I remember him always being very consistent and reliable for the Cowboys. Great human interest story about one of the better QBs of the early 80s and a true team player.

This is a foreshadowing of Danny White's coaching career indoors in the Arena League, becoming a HOFer in that league.

That would be the last home win of Landry's career
Also a few overlaps people don't really think of Michael Irvin playing his rookie year for Landry and Too Tall Jones playing his last year for Jimmy Johnson

Always liked Danny a lot! It’s tough coming after A Legend. Danny was a Class Act! Great QB! And Punter. VERY UNDER RATED! Thanks for The Memories.

He was never the same after the wrist injury. The accuracy was gone in his passes.

What a wonderful player for the Dallas Cowboys. The win vs Atlanta would be Landry's last ever home win.

White was one heck of a QB. But I was thinking about the other QB in this game, Chris Miller who would blossom in 1991 for the “2Legit 2quit Falcons”. Miller was the reason Brett Favre was traded to the Packers. Had Miller stayed healthy, the trade would have been justified

Stories like this one are the kind of investigative, human interest, feel-good documentaries that are largely lost today in a world of recency bias and hot takes. Very nice 🏈

I think there was a similar situation between Danny White and Gary Hogeboom in 1984, but White was adamant he should remain the starting quarterback?

Edit: Whoops, it's Gary Hogeboom, not Mike. I'm not sure how that got there.

A good player, a decent man, and a great teammate. Difficult to comprehend, true.
