Knife edge chop followed by the figure four. Commonly known as the Flair technique. Extremely lethal.

With this strike, you don't aim for the hard head, you aim for the soft neck.

These men are too dangerous to fight in the UFC. Dana White just can't allow his fighters to compete under such perilous conditions.

Why not the heel of the hand or a well placed fist?

As a boxer that also did Thai I don't understand why anyone would choose to strike with a delicate part of the hand when other choices exist...

Definitely a great tool that said, rarely do most fights end with one shot.
So though a defender doesn't need a ton of strikes, one should always be prepared to follow up if need be.

Ridgehand, great strike, old school TKD, Hapkido, but always follow up with combination in case you miss, you cannot expect opponent to hold still you might miss, just like shooting at least do a double tap

I'm a former boxer and current professional boxing coach. I has 102 and 10 with 56 stoppages. Knocking out untrained opponents is a parlor trick for me.

Ridge hand strikes were my favorite strikes in my younger tournament days. Including a inverted ridge hand. Very effective to temples, groin, kidney, bridge of nose, back of head. A right backfist to head fake rolls into a ridge hand around their blocking arm into temple while shuffling in with lead leg .

I hate to correct you both, but the "Okinawa Slap, " is a direct strike to the Jaw and Carotid Artery which causes the muscle to spasm and block the flow of blood to the brain for a moment, which is enough to send them on their lullaby.

You can achieve this without damaging your opponent at all. Using you hand as a ridge hand is good, but also connecting with your spearing fingers to apply direct pressure to the Carotid Artery at the same time.

“What type of damage do you think this does?”
“Well John if done correctly you’ll more than likely break your hand” 🤡

Well if that's the case why aren't they using it in MMA, easy peasy isn't it mate 🙄

No doubt he [instructor] could probably pull it off, but respectfully, the problem is that the ridge-hand compromises the safety of your hand/thumb. Although the described technique generates whipping power, it's not a strike that's advisable in most situations. The likelihood of a potential hand injury is somewhat high-- whether trained or untrained, e.g., during movement in conflict. A chop with the knife-end of the hand, is safer if you insist. Again, all respect for creating videos to help others.
