What is SAFe?
Safe is a scaling agile framework popular with large corporations and hated by Agile practitioners.

This video provides a an introduction to scaled agile framework.
Don't take it as a scaled agile framework guide, rather take it as scaled agile explained with a pinch of salt, a little help from @MiroHQ, @TechGPT_News and sense of humor.

Big shoutout to @MiroHQ for sponsoring this video!

Agile practitioners criticize SAFe for many different aspects: being overly prescriptive, stealing other people’s concepts and misusing them, being an undercover waterfall agent, and so on and so forth. To best summarize their opinions we could say that:

"SAFe is like the lovechild of a control freak and a Project Manager on a power trip."

On the other hand, those who actually use it and are surrounded by the madness of working with multiple component teams in a big corporation have a different view. For them, it’s all about bringing order to the chaos of multiple teams working on big projects. It’s like saying:

"Hey, let’s get organized and make sure nobody’s stepping on each other’s toes…or at least minimize the number of times toes get squished."

Let’s see what the Scaled Agile Framework is all about.

Scale Agile Framework is just Waterfall with an Agile Skin. It's prescribed, project management, gnatt chart release planning with some Agile buzz words laid over it and some agile offices and team structure like Product Owner and Scrum Master; but it's not Agile. What SAfist call chaos, is the adaptability of Agile and having a flatter control structure; but when you need the power and control of demanding what's going to be done, and by what deadline, that just won't do.

We had senior VP a couple years ago try to bring SAFe to our organization; which was basically him telling the team's what they must deliver by each release based on his business initiatives. I was so glad when we came back for the next release planning and he was gone. Don't know if him leaving was related to his SAFe attempts; but doesn't matter, cause Scalable -Waterfall- Agile went with him.

hAHAHAHAHAHHA... I slept in my two day SAFe training... dumb people think SAFe can be taught in 2 days for a certification examination, when their course is maddeningly humongous, they have taken all management processes and blended them for their crazy agenda. lolz... taken examples from management gurus, mixed agile lean kanban design thinking and dont know what else. Stupid world. I cannot rant like this on Linkedin lolz.. but here I'm a free bird. :D Thanks for making this super awesome video with strikingly amazing metaphors :D Kudos.

Hi Maria, thank you for this video. It was very entertaining and had a clear explanation. The way you link managers with agile terminology is absolutely accurate. It's like saying, "I use agile words, so I must be agile.

I think safe can be beneficial Because agile can be good for clients. Sometimes some aspects of waterfall are good for teams, consultants and especially big corporations. Safe takes the prescriptive yet agile leaning aspects of waterfall like rolling wave and certain incremental upfront planning into the PI portion, and combines it with more traditional agile methods in the iteration planning. This may be a reason why some of the people we're not been around for awhile do not appreciate SAFE. If they came in and only know agile or scrum, then they may not appreciate these aspects of structure

nailed it! excellent video describing the process and descriptions and chaos, my experience pretty much when we first tried it. thankfully our organization has moved away from SAFe, though we still keep the PI events as a showcase for teams and stakeholders (like a giant sprint demo)

Hi! Great video! Do you provide an explanation on creating the board later, or is there already a prepared template available for use, either through purchase or at no cost?

I thought it was me - but others hates it too, lol. Although SAFe is not as bad as certification exam they provide :( It feels more like "memorize our weird terminology" than anything else.

I have to take the cert exam for my new job. Do you have any tips for how to study it or any sites you recommend? The workbook on the scaledcommunity site is very broad and don't have details. However, the readings on the site itself have too many details that are repetitive.

It's not just hated by "agile practitioners." It's hated by every engineer that is subject to a looney bin style way of project management, which is what this is.

Why so much negativity against SaFe from your prospective?
