I've always played with the idea of writing the absolute nicest and kindest main villain in all of fiction.

I found the best ruling to help with this is this quote: "The villain is the hero of their own story" which can generate some great ideas.

I have no issue writing up a cartoon character who is cheesy if making something deliberately comical or just fun like some pathfinder villains I've roleplayed.

What if the railroad tracks are the most convenient way to dispatch the heroine?

"You're not writing a villain you're writing a cartoon character."

Well I'm writing a cartoon so...

Situationally, "come out, come out, wherever you are." Can be fine if a good lead in event is set up and villian is unhinged enough for it imo.

Question: what if it’s a short story and it’s like a parody of that and it’s supposed to be stereotypical? It should be totally ok then, right?

A lot of my fantasy story ideas take place in the same world which I've been developing for years.

It started off as the setting to a single book but I have since greatly expanded it with the introduction of various different races aside from humans, religions, geography, lore etc.

Worldbuilding is honestly my favorite thing about being an aspiring author. It's ao much fun to just let my imagination run wild.

The biggest villains in history, never saw themselves as villains. Food for thought.

While I see where you're coming from, the past few years have taught me that sometimes people really do act like cartoon villains.

For so long, I've always felt that I wouldn't be good at writing villains but the more I think about it, the more I feel like it's due to my restraint. My villains, like the heroes, would have various ways in which they express their foul nature. Whether that's the inconsiderate jerk who cut you off or a tyrant who weaponizes systemic power against the disenfranchised, there's so many flavors of bad that I feel like you can really go ham especially if they have no regards for morality and ethics. Villains are useful.

My villain is actually an antihero. Her motivation is complex!

I agree with this near 100%, but there are always exceptions to the rule. If you want a villain that is sadistic and clearly villainous a la Richard Ramirez then they should be written that way.

My villain was easy to write, I based him off several of my exes and ramped the evil up to 100. He's thoughtful and provides his victim (the main character) with everything she could possibly need (except enough to eat because he wants her in a permanently weakened state) but treats her appallingly because abduction and various forms of abuse are appalling. He was her boyfriend, but because she sensibly wanted to wait until she was of the age of consent to sleep with him (he's older than her by five years) he decided he was going to take away her agency and force her into it, and keep her locked in his attic for seven years. There's bits and pieces from my own relationships I've used. Although it's funny, because I wrote about a 20 year old man grooming a 15 year old girl, and then a few years later was groomed by a man two years younger than me when I was 31. Should have seen the signs. 😟 Hindsight is a wonderful thing.

The cheese has a home, but not in this medium. At least not without a significant lift on your part to meet their themeing

Not going to lie, cartoony villains CAN work with enough self-deprecation.

I think you can use textbook examples if you change the wording, for example, instead of "come out come out wherever you are" it's "get your ass out here bitches!!"
